Good to see he's fairly busy in Europe, judging by the numerous videos of this fellow.

It's obviously helped him moving to NYC . I can't even remember how long its been now..maybe 2 years since he left LA ? I played with Putter Smith, Alan's long time bassist, a few months back who, now himself, is living part time in NYC. He said it's a totally different musical world then here in LA...people are always getting together and playing at their lofts/studios/apartments. Of course that pretty much goes without saying. wink

Alan always sounds good ! Happy to see that he's out and about playing. cool

Yea, I was a little surprised when I heard Alan Broadbent move to NY. He is a very established pianist in the LA scene, and i think he did a lot of studio work, but I guess he is happier now that he is in NY. I've heard interviews of different former LA musicians like Shane Endsley and Alan Ferber.. and it seems like they all feel that NY is better creative outlet, at least for doing jazz.

The scene has changed so much here in the last 10-15 years. Alan did a tad of studio work years ago but not on the scale of Bill Mays (who also moved East a long time ago) , Mike Lang and others. Alan was mainly known for his arranging and conducting for singers. He did some work for Natalie Cole, Diana Krall and Jane Monheit to name a few.

I heard the main reason he left was they didn't want their young son to grow up in LA. I guess they wanted him to have more grounded East Coast roots...which I totally understand, being from the Midwest myself.

I haven't seen Alan Ferber's name around lately, so I'm guessing he's more based in NY now. He was considered an East Coast guy anyway for the most part. The very few times I called him for a gig, he was always back there. Yeah, he's a great drummer !

Yea, I can understand the whole jazz scene situation in LA, it seems like there isn't a whole lot, and a lot of the really talented younger guys moved out to east coast. I know Josh Nelson is still in town and tours with Natalie Cole, but it does seem like the scene is becoming smaller.

I actually heard about Alan Ferber on this podcast. He and his brother moved to NY a while ago, and they seem to be doing really well.
