Very interesting! The guy can really play, and he did have a big audience. Good thing they liked it... if not, he'd a been in trouble.  The piano sounded good to be a digital.  Best regards, Rick

It is so sad that his appearance brought calm and peace for only a very short time. It's back to tear gas and water cannons again.

Over in the Pianist Corner, this amazing and touching event was dubbed "Spectacular Self-Promotion." You would think there would be more sensitivity over there.

Sadly, the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, gave orders to confiscate the piano. Update To Story This makes it easier to take interest and then take sides in a conflict that I previously knew very little about.

Sensitivity? All due respect, but there's more than one side to any civil protest.

The point is that "Spectacular Self-Promotion" was in the title of the thread. That misses the point completely and was insensitive to what the pianist attempted to accomplish. His political beliefs are negated when his act is reduced to self-promotion.
I posted my reaction to that thread at Pianist Corner.

Sensitivity? All due respect, but there's more than one side to any civil protest. Personally, I tend to support pianists, regardless of political affiliation, but many people have an ax to grind with the Turks! Ask an Armenian, for example. Well if it comes to that Americans do not seem to be universally popular and I even believe that there are some misguided fools who do not care for the French. Do you really mean that you think it proper to amend your reaction to this event in the light of the nationality of the performer?

My reaction was to the use of "Spectacular Self-Promotion." That is what is catty and insensitive.
My opinion and respect for the pianist have not changed and I couldn't care less about his nationality!
You have totally missed the point that I was making.

Precisely! And that's why I think it may not be a good idea to take sides in a protest simply because someone's playing a piano.

Robert, what I was saying is that you would think there would be more sensitivity in the Pianist Corner. I wasn't referring to politics in Turkey.
