Any value in a 46 year old Rösler upright?

I'm trying to help a friend figure out if there's any value in her old piano. She's got a Rösler upright (neither of us know the model), bought new sometime around 1967. She bought it for her son but he lost interest after a couple of years and the piano has been mostly unused.

It looks like it's in good condition, no damage to keys or casing. Only known problem is that some of the keys get stuck on the casing infront of the keys during the warmer summer months.

She can't remember exactly when it was tuned last time but she's guessing it was more than 15 years ago.

English isn't my native language so pardon any typos and grammatical slip-ups.

Interesting Fact: A mere 5% of the world's population has english as their native language.

In general, pianos age like people. They're in their prime when they're 20 to 30 years old. At 40 and 50, they may need to have parts replaced, and their useful life is over some time after that (or it's cheaper to replace than repair).

Pianos are made of wood, leather, and felt as well as steel. These parts age, whether the piano is played or not. So this piano probably has many years left, depending on whether it was damaged, or had any repairs. Have a local person check it out.

I would suggest that your friend have the piano tuned. After 15 years of neglect, it certainly needs it. Then ask the tuner to place a value on it.

I have a 1945 large British built Brock upright. It has been really well used, sustain pedal is worn through, but with a little attention it still has a great action (HerbergerBrooks - they were not the most expensive), and a pleasing sound.

Such pianos are selling for around 1200-1400 EUR here in the Czech Republic, but this is a local market and prices are probably higher than in Sweden. Anyway, your friend's tuner will tell you rough value for cheap probably...
