Vasi, Might not be an issue with Kawai ES7 (or any brand) if you have long fingernails. Slightly off topic, but keep them short.

Certainly it doesn't look like a material issue, but actual scratches instead. Some filler and sandpaper would do the job.

Vasi, I would strongly recommend against attempting to smooth the keyboard surface by yourself.

The best option is to seek assistance from the dealer.

Kind regards,
James

i have mp5 kawai too for 3 years already))-i used it very often , and there is no such problem, keys are solid and perfect. Anyways i have nails, and they are not so long as you think!)) I sent info to musicstore.de so i'll wait for answer, and let you know about this issue. As you see on the picture all keys have special thin cover, and this cover became to flake off...for example mp5 i can repair, but this type definitely no because of cover.

Hello everyone,

This is my first ever message on this great forum I've been reading for months.
I'm highly interested in the Kawai ES7, and intend to purchase it soon, but I'm wondering something regarding its MIDI abilities (and I'm a total beginner with MIDI and MIDI pianos). I intend to use that piano not only with its internal sounds, but also with a computer through MIDI. I particularily enjoy pipe organs sounds, but as you probably know, real organs have a pedal keyboard for their lowest notes! So, I'm wondering whether it is possible to split the ES7 keyboard into 2 separate MIDI sections : the first section would be the first 15, or 20,... etc. lowest notes of the ES7 keyboard, and these notes would be assigned to the original pedal keyboard notes of the organ. The 2nd section would be assigned to the standard organ keyboard.
In the owner's manual, page 110, I found this :

Using Split mode with Multi-timbral mode enabled
Notes played in the lower section of the keyboard will be
transmitted on the channel that is 1 channel higher than the
specified channel. For example, if the MIDI channel is set to
3, notes played in the lower section of the keyboard will be
transmitted on channel 4.

Does it mean it's OK ?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello WalterSobchak, welcome to the forum.

Yes, referring to the owner's manual, I believe the ES7 is indeed able to send MIDI information for the upper and lower sections on separate MIDI channels.

I will double-check this point with my colleagues in the ES7 team on Monday, and post a follow-up here once I have confirmed the answer.

Kind regards,
James

Hello again WalterSobchak, I checked this point with my colleagues and they confirm that the operation as described in the owner's manual is correct.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James

Take care.

Question to ES7 owners (with stand and triple pedal)

Where are triple pedal cables plugged in on this screen ? (click on to zoom it)

[Linked Image]

I thought that they go to sockets in yellow circles.

meanwhile, on the next picture, they certainly are indeed (cables). Is there kind of extra sockets at the bottom of DP, only for F-301 unit ?

Hi tomek,

There is indeed a separate connector on the underside of the ES7 for the triple pedal, approximately where the question mark points in your jpg.

The two connectors you've circled on the back panel of the instrument are for the F10 and F20 accessory pedals.

Hello I'm thinking of buying a Kawai ES7, but I would like to know if there is any way of choosing drums as instrument (not as accompaniament), it seems to be not possible...
And I wonder if when it plays back a multi track midi file the percussion track can be heard properly.
Thanks to everyone

Marcos, I'm afraid the ES7's drumkits cannot be selected from the instrument's panel, however they should be accessible via MIDI.

Regarding your second question, yes, playing back a MIDI backing track (with percussion) will work correctly. However, please bear in mind that the ES7 does not support the full gamut of GM/GM2 sounds. Therefore some songs that utilise these voices may not sound 100% accurate.

Kind regards,
James

Correct.

The preset drum rhythms can be selected from the panel using the 'Rhythm Section' feature. The drumkit sounds are not accessible from the panel, but can be accessed using MIDI.

Do the keys on the ES7 have less travel (feel shallower) than some of the other DP's it's usually compared to? Is that something that's consistent between acoustics or does it also vary?

When I tried the ES7 the other day it did feel as if the keys didn't have to go down as far to reach the bottom. Not sure if I'm wrong on that or if it being setup at an angle on a rack had anything to do with it.

Yes, they are shallower than many.

(Specifically, shallower than Yamaha GH; just had a Yamaha CP33 in my home for a few weeks, next to my ES7).

Unfortunately acoustics have a good bit of variation in travel as well from one piano to the next. I don't regularly play a large number of pianos, but the grand I play most often has noticeably longer travel than the upright acoustic I play most. The last few grands I have played had longer than average travel as well.

I believe there has been a general trend toward longer travel at the same time as there has been a general trend toward heavier keys over time. At least among grands. Not necessarily a good thing in either case.

I find that my MP8 has what feels like an average travel, perhaps on the longer side. I'd be interested if the ES7 has a shorter travel.

Without actually measuring the travel distance, just my observation is that it is shorter than many. Looking at it, I cannot imagine it being much less than what I see. I like it though.
