I had hoped the piano technician's forum wouldn't need moderating, but like any of our forums it attracts the good, the bad, and the ... Well you get the idea.

We are looking for volunteers to moderate this forum, but before you raise your hand, understand that the position requires thick skin and a tolerant nature.

Here are the requirements (and you thought it was easy)...
If you are still interested after reading the following, by all means contact me personally (frank@pianoworld.com). Thanks for your consideration.

The Moderator Will:

Watch for Offensive Posts
Watch for Inappropriate Pictures
Warn Offenders
Remove Inappropriate Pictures
Ask the Poster of an Offensive Post to Remove It (or clean it up)
Remove the Offensive Post Themselves if the Poster Refuses (and copy me on the details). I wold prefer you move the post to the "Restricted for Removed Posts" forum (last forum at the bottom)
Unless the poster is an obvious knucklehead, please try to be tactful
Uphold the "Three Strikes and You're Out" Rule (by keeping me informed of the details)
Keep their PM boxes trimmed in case members are trying to PM them
Try to Help Posters of Legitimate Questions (by pointing them to the answer if it already exists)
Alert Me If They See a Particularly Helpful Post (so we can add it to one of the FAQ areas)
Uphold a Code of Ethics

The Moderator Will NOT:

Let His/Her Personal Feelings Cloud Their Judgement
Ban Any Members (although they can suggest that I do)
Abuse The Privileges of Being a Moderator
Stifle Legitimate Debates in the Coffee Room (as opposed to blatant abuses)
Override My Decisions
Attempt to Steer any Guests/Members Toward a Particular Product, Dealer, Tuner, Etc. (unless it is to a public post/thread that answers their question)

Moderator Qualifications:
~ Moderators must be willing and able to put personal feelings aside.
~ They must use good judgement and treat all posters equally.
~ Should visit the forum(s)they are responsible for at least once a day when possible.

Moderator's Names

The moderator's forums name will show up in the forum(s) he/she is moderating.
Before we go live I will make another post to the boards explaining the role of the moderator, and that moderators are NOT to be harassed.

If any member feels they have a problem with a moderator, they are to bring it to me.

Moderator Rotation

We will likely keep the moderator count at 2-3 per moderated forum.
If you are not listed as an active moderator, it does not mean you haven't been chosen, it may just mean you aren't in the current rotation.
Moderators will be notified individually when the become active (or inactive).

If you were active, and then become deactivated it is not a reflection on you, it simply means I'm giving someone else a chance.

Discussions
Please use this Moderators Only forum to discuss things related to moderating, including asking for help or suggestions.

Dropping Out

If you feel for whatever reason you know longer wish to be a moderator, or would like to drop a specific forum but keep another, just let me know.
I would like everyone who is chosen to give it a fair chance, but nobody is locked in, this is strictly voluntary.

Questions?
If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the Moderators Only forums.
Posting here gives everyone a chance to ponder the question. (only registered moderators can access this forum).
Or, if you prefer to ask in private, email me... webmaster@pianoworld.com please make the subject line "Forums Moderator Question"

I did not expect a moderator to be needed on the tech's forum either.

But I must admit that maybe the time has come. Many contributors have left over the years and it's a shame.

I have recently seriously considered leaving the forum, but I won't. There is still some interesting, experienced and well spoken contributors.

I applaud the effort and hope that you get a retired tech or something to do the job.

All the best Mr. Baxter.
