In the Queen Elisabeth competition, for the semifinal, the contestants prepare two recitals and the jury picks one to hear. That's probably their solution for avoiding 8 Petrouchkas and 7 Gaspards and 6 Liszt sonatas.

Here's a little bit of change of mood. A Mozart piece, followed by Albeniz. And a transcription! I read a little about Pavel Pabst. He edited Tchaikowsky's piano music. I have never heard this transcription, but really looking forward to it. Onegin is one of my favorite operas:)

I like his rep choices, too. It must have been a shock to everyone in the first round when he played the "other" Campanella.

This is a relief after the heaviness of the last 3 recitals.

Another signal loss during the Albeniz. Since Day 1 starting with Claire, there have been numerous technical glitches (internet, not just pianistic). Especially compared with the Tchaikovsky Competition, which was a lot smoother run, albeit with an international time zone to boot.

I believe that this means that each competitor with a juror relationship will get a vote from that juror equal to his or her proportion of votes received from the remaining jurors. In other words, competitors with juror relationships will have their vote totals "grossed up" to account for the fact that all jurors were not allowed to vote for them.

Take the extreme case of a competitor with a relationship with 10 out of the 13 jurors. At most, they could only get 3 votes. Using this algorithm, suppose out of the 3 eligible jurors, 2 voted for them, their total score would be 2 + (10 * 2/3), or 8.67, giving them 2/3 of the total potential votes (13 * 2/3 = 8.67).

Any thoughts?

Really enjoying the Albeniz "Iberia". Nice change from all the Stravinsky "Petrouchka"s and "Gaspards". Wish that there was more programming of Granados, Faure Nocturnes, Messiaen, maybe some of the Shostakovich 24 preludes and fugues.

Sakati won me over with this program. It really was a breath of fresh air after all the warhorses.

I read it this way: say Claire's teacher is on the jury, and votes for Claire. So do 5 other jury members. So Claire's teacher's vote for Claire counts this way:

6/12

Six is the number of votes Claire received, and 12 is the number of jurors eligible to vote for Claire. So Claire's teacher's vote for Claire counts half of what any of Claire's teacher's other votes count for.

That was my first time hearing the Eugene Onegin paraphrase. Liked the nifty salonesque (if that's a word!) air it had about it -- not so much pounding as the Liszt transcriptions, more fleet dancing.

I didn't dislike the Pabst as much as I thought I would. I generally liked his recital tonight. But I don't think there's enough room for him to advance.

As much as I like this recital, I'll have to agree. It was better than his first recital by far, but there have been too many people so far whose first AND second recitals were stellar.

Nice Mozart by Lindsay, fairly clean articulation and coloration. Stylish, like her outfit. Enjoyed the Villa de'Este as well.
Mesmerized by the Chopin, despite some smudges at the chordal climax.
Overall nice program, hope to see her advance.

there's nothing special about Garritson's play, i feel, with kindly of boring Mozart especially.

Maybe people would take you more seriously if you took a little time to correct your grammar before posting...
