OK, I'm proud of this: I got an unsolicited "My mom is awesome!" post from my son on Facebook yesterday.

He showed me this Skrillrex song, "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites," which is totally NOT my cup of tea. But then he showed me the piano cover of the same song, which I liked! I found and bought the sheet music and although the song is not technically difficult, getting it to speed will be a challenge.

Son came home from dinner to find me practicing it and.... I earned a public "awesome"! I am still musically relevant! smile

I listened to the piano version first, and then the original! Wow! Whoever wrote the piano version definitely has my respect. I would never listen to the Skrillex version and think "oh, this would work really well on piano." But it sure does, doesn't it! Watching her hands, it doesn't like there's anything conceptually difficult, just getting it to tempo as you said. But it seems really straightforward. Off to search for the score and see whether I'm totally wrong about that! smile

JeanieA, is this what you purchased?

Skrillex score at Musicnotes.com

Do you buy from Musicnotes often? I haven't yet, but there's an Yiruma piece that it looks like I can get from there, so now might be a good time to start shopping there. It looks like the score is just written from a digital program, which isn't my favorite "look" if you know what I mean. But as long as the notes are readable etc.

Oh, and about the tempo, that score says MM=70 in cut time, or IOW 140, right? That does seem like it would be a challenge to get up to tempo. JeanieA have you started practicing it?

Thanks, casinitaly! I thought maybe this should be my AOTW!

Shiro - amazing transformation from the original to piano, huh? I downloaded the score from musicnotes.com, not that I'm endorsing anyone. wink

Whoops, cross-post there Shiro. Yes, the musicnotes one is the version I bought, it's three pages with a bunch of repeats.

Yes, it IS fast and fast is not my forte (pun intended) so I'm thinking this will be one of those "it's GOOD for you to try this" kind of pieces. I picked through it a little last night, but will start really working on it this evening. It will take a while to hit that tempo, if I ever even do!

I haven't purchased much from musicnotes, but have bought quite a bit from Sheet Music Online. No real preference for one site over the other, but I REALLY need to be careful as the sites accept PayPal. I don't even have to get up to find my debit card to buy music...a dangerous propostion! wink

Yeah, sheet music is addicting! smile

I wonder how it would sound up to about MM=120 (or 60 for the cut time count)... I might not get to it until later in the summer, but I post back if I start working on it. And please let us know how your progress is!

It will be a nice party piece. As you drop the name Skrillrex would be priceless to see the looks on peoples faces.

Surprisingly easy, barely an inconvenience.

Nice to know you're musically relevant.

You could have a ton of fun with this. Think rentals. Freaky costume, synthesizer, original cover. smile

Seriously...the piano version isn't bad at all. Kinda catchy.
