An ad from a local seller for a Hamilton Baby Grand. Looks like a good deal:

Heck, it may not be a great piano, but for $500 you can't go far wrong. It looks nice, too.

Go play it and see what you think.

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

Hamiltons were the next step down from Baldwin's own labeled pianos, but it is a very big step. You might find a true sostenuto pedal in it, rather than a bass sustain like in the cheaper models.

Oh yes , from that Pic it looks nice and if it plays good without any big issues, I would love one like that for my other living room laugh

Good deal? No. Ok deal? Maybe. Get it inspected by a qualified technician.

Well you did say talk you out of it. Wouldn't you rather have a nice new shiney Corvette or Bentley instead? Maybe something older ? I have a couple nice 1928 Packards? Maybe an adventure instead? Zip-lining over the Grand Canyon at rusty cable & bottomless mineshaft zip-lining co. ?

What, companies make grands with bass sustain instead of true sostenuto? Gaaaaaaah! I thought it was just uprights that have to put up with that tantalizingly annoying compromise.

I too have been tempted on occasion by some really low priced (or free) baby grands. Thing is, even a baby can take up a lot of space; and, if it is not a good musical instrument, why sacrifice the space or go through the motions?

I do think it is worth a look, if you are in the market for a playable baby grand.

Good luck and keep us informed! smile

Totally OT - I have never understood why anyone would place a grand with the top opening toward a wall.

Steven, and this is a good thing? Grands just aren't designed to splatter the full sound against a wall!

You can still get boundary reinforcement for bass with the other side close to a wall. I would hate to get such mess of sounds that way as you can probably tell from my setup. laugh

If the price is $500 for any of the above, I'll take 'em all!

Brad,

Are those vases and a hooka pipe on the lid? Maybe check for water spills? If that's a hooka pipes......oh oh, party time!

Kidding, looks like it's valued and for that price, how can you go wrong (except for what everyone said)!

Its a cheap piano! Don't waste your money on it. The bass will sound like someone knocking on your back door during a snow storm and the treble will be loud with no sustain.

Your talking five hundred for the piano. Three hundred to move it. Another hundred or two for tuning and any repairs. Put your thousand toward something that is intended to be more than just a piece of furniture.

I'm assuming your intentions are to make music?

(Brad,I hope that helps)
