I try U4 and find it best for piano/pianissimo sound.
But hammer's sound need to adjust for each player.

I agree that, among the various Pianoteq options, the U4 seems to be the most realistic model of the acoustic piano it references. There's a thread on the Pianoteq forum that observes the U4 uses more CPU than the other Pianoteq models, so maybe the U4 is a better model (and, if so, perhaps this is because it's the latest model). Also, 52-inch pianos don't have the richest bass in the world, though they're fun to play, especially when perfectly in tune with a super-responsive action.

IMO, EW QL Pianos sound much better and more realistically in "P" or "PP".
Unfortunately I could not hear any real rich piano timbre at this DEMO.
Just "low pass" filtered sound and knocking, although your performance, Yuri, is very delicate and with natural feeling.

But the EW QL pianos are full-sized grands, aren't they, while the U4 is a model of an upright?

In any case, was Yuri's recording done with the mics set at a little distance from the piano, with the amplitude of the hammer knocks raised? In other words, if it's not a close-mic performance, the louder hammer sounds encourage one to believe it is, and thus expect a richer (and generally louder?) sound. So a comparison with a close-mic'ed samples (from a grand) leads to expectations that it can't fulfill.

But I'm making guesses. Uri, which preset for the U4 did you use?

Thanks. I see that the mics for the Midnight preset are fairly close, but not as close as in some libraries, where the mics are set inside the hood. They are instead set near the player, at the outer edge of the keys:

The graphic is not for a preset. Because there were questions about the "close" sound, I was just posting the graphic to show where the mics are in the Midnight preset.

OK. But position of mics changes the sound but not resolve problems...

What problem are you trying to resolve? Are you wanting a closer sound?

Did you record your playing of Tchaikovsky's "October" to a midi file? If so, I would like to use it to work towards creating a preset in Pianoteq that might be more to your liking.

Regardless, I like the version that you posted here. But I do understand the desire to replicate the player's experience a bit more while playing.
