Evans played on "Stolen Moments", the solos were on C- blues changes.
Can you name the other tracks Bill Evans played on that were 12 bar blues?

I'm not aware of another tune where Evans plays on a minor blues.

.... some funkallero transcriptions (it's a 16-bar minor tune and not a 12-bar blues) ... but WELL WORTH MENTIONING in any discussion of BE!

// stan get's solo (w/bill evans)
http://www.andrewfrankhouse.com/PDF/FunkalleroC.pdf

// bill evans' solo (it may not be from the same recording)
http://www.wenatcheemusic.com/phocadownload/bill_evans_Funkallero.pdf

// lead sheet
http://johnnypumphandle.com/johnny/tutor/Funkallero.bmp

here's a great version of bill evans and jeremy steig playing monk's "straight no chaser" (12-bar blues)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oNVnQL72Jk

here's bill evans playing straight chaser with miles davis and john coltrane and cannonball adderly!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAJj2VdOfBQ

there's another version with the same group on an LP (miles davis) called "jazz at the plaza." i don't know it's on you tube but it is on spotify.

i'm sure there are a few other blues in his discography ... maybe someone else will identify them ... they do tend to be hidden away!

Here is Evans playing Blue Monk with JJ Johnson …. (no pf solo though)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie9-5LjGv3s

Blue Monk also appears on 'conversations with myself' (not on youtube though).

I think I read something in the biography (how my heart sings) about how he didn't play blues much because he didn't feel he did it very well. I can't find the quote though so i may have just invented that ;-)

i saw that somewhere too ... but i THINK i remember it being about rhythm changes and then the author saying something to the effect of "But look at his trio version of Oleo!" i may well have invented that!

Check out the liner note of the record with getz 'but beautiful'. Getz calls a blues, evans gets upset and stops playing after 2 choruses. When getz ends his solo, evans apparently tells israel not to take one and you have a bit of akwardness until getz picks it up again. Getz of xcourse is totally smoking.
Maybe thats why he doesn't play freddie on so what.

Here's a bit more info on the Evans/Getz blowup over the blues from the Bill Evans website:

The concert series of 1974 Laren International Jazz Festival was continued with a performance by the Bill Evans Trio with Stan Getz. (Stan Getz, tenor saxophone; Bill Evans, piano; Eddie Gomez, bass and Marty Morell drums). Producer Joop de Roo still remembers very well how everything went wrong: In the studio in the afternoon everything went reasonably, although the problem remained as to exactly what changes should be played in the blues. Eventually it was decided not to play any blues at all. In the evening Bill Evans started off all right until Stan appeared and blatantly started an unannounced, unrehearsed blues, "Stan's Blues". Evans refused to go on playing and the whole set lasted only 25 minutes. The concert which they gave a week later at the Middelheim Jazz Festival, Antwerp in Belgium, on the other hand was exceedingly good. Released as album title: But Beautiful (Milestone records).

Just thought of one: Interplay is a minor blues written by Bill Evans.

One of my favorites is Swedish Pastry played live by the Bill Evans Trio at Shelly's Manne-Hole:

[video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ErXhWWXOeBY[/video]

I don't know why Bill thought he didn't have much to say with 12-bar blues. All I know is I enjoy these rare blues moments just as much as I enjoy his other interpretations.

In addition to eschewing the blues, Evans rarely played bossas or any Latin tunes. Anyone know if he ever said anything about that?
