I've got pianoteq play and had this a couple of years but since purchasing Synthogy ivory 2, I have not used pianoteq at all .
Is the upgrade to pianoteq stage going to be much better than the play .I can upgrade to the stage version for 28 euros, but it will be a waste of money if I don't use it.
Synthogy have peed me off a bit to upgrade to the American grand I have to pay full price, but with pianoteq any upgrades in the first year are free and even after any amount of years the upgraded version is offered at a much lower price.

Pianoteq play to me has always seemed a bit of a weedy thin sound, hence the reason I use ivory 2.But I have listened to some demos of the latest pianoteq 4.5 and they do sound very good now and the latest upright U4 add on is very impressive I think.

I'm not sure if I can try the free trial version because having the old version already on my hard drive might not work after the 20 days if I decide not to purchase.

You can try the trial version for sure without a problem. I've been using the V3.6.7 equivalent of Pianoteq Stage for a couple of years now and have had the trial version of V4 on my computer for the last six months.

Does this mean you got 2 pianoteqs on same computer ,if so if I decide to purchase I would delete the trial version and upgrade my original pianoteq I think. Not sure how it works.

That's right. I actually have three Pianoteqs (2 licensed, 1 demo) on the same computer as I also have the Linux version running on a virtual Linux machine. I believe Modartt allows each licensee of Pianoteq to register and run it on up to three computers. The demo version doesn't require any registration to use, although it does have a handful of notes disabled and needs to be restarted after 15 or 20 minutes of use. You shouldn't have any problem trying it out while keeping your old licensed version running.

Just be sure that, during installation, you install the trial to a new folder. I don't think that the installation of the trial version will overwrite anything that you already have, but just be careful that during installation, you keep track of the name of the folder that the program is being installed in, and change it if you think it might overwrite anything.

Most of the instruments, along with the engine, have been revised, and there is a new preset for the D4 called "Daily Practice" that has received much praise. (I like it best with the reverb turned off.) There's a lot to be said for the D4 Intimate preset, too.

You may be in for a pleasant surprise with the latest version, which was only released a few months ago.

But if you are still hesitant to install the trial, you may want to post a question on the Pianoteq site or use their support page.

I'm now playing the free trial and it is a big improvement on my old pianoteq.
This free trial also comes with the new U4 and I'm having a blast with the U4 tall preset, very expressive. Also I get to try the Bluthner which I think is very good .
Overall so far I'm very impressed with this new pianoteq and the add on's,I will play the trial for a bit longer and then make the purchase I think.

I like the instant load up time compared to my ivory and at the moment Im finding the sound to be more realistic.

Anybody who has not tried this latest 4.5 pianoteq should at least try the free trial it might change the way you think about piano softwares
