Hey Nikolas,

Checking in late again, it was good to hear another example of your string writing - very, VERY inventive!

This is all very subjective of course: There is great strength in your rhythmic passages, and the off-set prolation of accents and the beats. I love the way your sixteenth notes morph into something else completely. The parts that drive, really drive!

The slow, coda-like section at the close of your first movement seems anti-clamatic, and out-of-place. I also had trouble with the other, chorale-like sections. My ears were looking for a stronger, more directed "bass line", to give more certainty to the harmonic movement. Of course, without a 'cello, that is next to impossible.

Lastly, I concur completely with KeyString - your use of timbre is masterful.

Best,
Ed

Hi Ed,

Many thanks for listening.

Yes my drive was... paranoid... and my ending... well... depressing! What did you expect? (Honestly though when I composed these two (and the other two in the set, I was REALLY having a hard time).

I'd love to get a cello in this, but... a violin duet is a violin duet. Not to mention that very few violin duets are out there and I hope that mine will make a difference! grin

Thanks again!

Do you ever compose 'ear candy' type pieces, Nikolas? 'Crowd pleasers' so to speak?

Are you kidding? Of course I do!

But it really depends on your definition of 'crowd pleasers'! Apparently 'Piano Stories' is a real crowd pleaser, but in any case check out this thread: https://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubb...20Goes%20Around%20Comes%20Around%20.html

Remember, I work in the computer games industry as well! wink Crowd pleasing is a given!

Really though, I thought that lately I've been offering to timid and 'nice' works, thus I decided to post these duets which are... the angry type! grin
