Hi everyone,

I'm new to this, so any help will be appreciated!
The situation:
It's almost the birthday of my girlfriend and i would love to give her a piano. First i was in doubt if i should go for an acoustic piano, but that's not an option, since neighbours will complain..
So now i'm searching for a digital piano and came across these models:

Yamaha
- clp320 (€500)
- clp560 (€450)
- clp 250 (€300)

Roland
- hp102e (€550)

My question is which of these is the best for someone who played the piano for 8 years in music school, and haven't played for a few years. The reason of this selection is that these are the models i can buy second hand for a reasonable price.

That's a really good price on the CLP320 (which was selling new until about a year and a half ago). It's a good quality digital piano, but without lots of extras - so you're basically buying a good quality keyboard & piano sound generator for the money.

The others are very old, apparently, so I'd probably avoid them unless they are of exceptional quality (This sometimes happens as in the case of the CLP990 - but that seems rare).

So if i had to choose between these, the CLP320 would be best choice?
I also found a Yamaha DGX 620, DGX-630 or DGX-640 for €400, how are these compared to the CLP320?

What i know my girlfriend will find most important:
- Realistic keys
- As nice as possible piano sound

*Never mind about the DGX serie, they don't have pedals!

The DGX line is lower end than the clavinovas (CLP line). For example it uses the cheaper GHS action.

Ahh, well.. Then it seems like a pretty easy decision to make.

FYI, Yamaha give this information about those CLP models:
CLP250 . . . 1988-1989
CLP560 . . . 1990-1996
CLP320 . . . 2008-

So ... yes, the CLP320 is the easy choice.

Yes, as you probably don't want to go back any further than the CLP-990 (as I just found one) since it dates from 2001 originally and the piano I just received from a private seller dates from 2002. Had to have it shipped over a long distance and it sustained some damage to the pedal assembly so do be careful when you move it. Nothing should come into contact with the underside of the pedal assembly as there is an exposed plug with circuits. Will have to have the plug and circuit board replaced as two of the three pedals are not working. It is better to get one where you can move it by yourself locally if possible.

Aside from the apparent damage (as the main sustain pedal is still working at present) I am happy to have acquired the CLP-990M as it is one of Yamaha's best digitals if you can find one in decent condition.

Looks like the CLP-320 is not nearly as old as the CLP-990 and it would be a very good choice, too.

Thank you all for the Information. The CLP990 is nowhere to be found near in my country. And someone already got the CLP-320 before i did. So my search continues.

Now i found a CLP-330 for asking price of €900,- but i dont know if that's a decent price for it. What do you think? I want to spend around €600,- for a DP which has a realistic piano sound.

You guys have some other tips?
