Hey all:

Here's a video link to a piece I wrote a little while ago. Reminds me of epic movie music. smile Hope you like it.

Quite nice. I guess a few people have chosen to comment elsewhere than in this thread so there are no responses here yet.

The stuff around 3:20 reminds me of Liszt's Dante Sonata, a slight turn-off for me because, well, Liszt's stuff is better. Other than that, I'd be very happy if I were able to consistently create music so enjoyable.

I noticed your channel at Youtube doesn't have much in terms of your own compositions. Is this something you don't often do or do you have a huge back catalogue basically waiting to be learned and uploaded? Unless this piece is a happy fluke, you have a talent for writing interesting melody, I have to say (for what it's worth, since I'm not an expert by any means).

Thanks, Medium Heights:

Glad you liked the melody. I have other compositions and am starting to post more of it online as I did with this one. In addition, I have always been an improviser and am intending to leverage those skills into creating more compositions. In fact, I made a post on my blog of several piano improvisations: Several Piano Improvisations.
I'm just looking to make more of my creative skills, hence I'm sharing more nowadays. Thanks again for the feedback.

Very nice.

The recordings have a nice 1920s sound, heh.

I haven't listened to them all the way through yet, but "Tonight's Piano Improvisation" has some excellent melodic touches, from 1:10 to 1:30 for example. I think the piece deserves a less humble name. If you could work the best of that piece into an effective little composition, I'd pay for music like that.

Wow, thanks man. Great to hear. As it happens, I do have a piano album out, "Waterfall," here's a video of me performing two of the pieces from it:

Watch a performance of me playing "Winter Glass" and "Summer Rain."

Also, read about the tracks from Waterfall here.

And good point on giving the improv a more fitting name. I'll definitely consider it.

Hey, Chris.

Very nice! Not many compositions on youtube are able to hold my attention for a full 5 minutes haha. But yours did. So i like it a lot.
You're left hand technique is pretty good i see. Mine is still too tense. I see you're very comfortable behind the piano.

Kudos!

Is it possible to buy your CD outside of the USA? I think you've calculated the shipping price for within U.S. deliveries. There's also no country choice in the form now that I checked.

Hi GregSTB:

Thanks for the great comments! Glad you liked the music.
As it happens, I'm left handed... maybe that helps, at least in regards to left handed playing. On the flip side, I've had to work on my right-hand, since it is usually the star of the show, at least melodically speaking.

If your hand is tense, you definitely want to work to keep your hand relaxed. Got any recordings/videos I can watch? ...Or did you already show me something? Your screen name looks familiar.

Oh i see. Either way.. Your left hand is still very smooth, better than many right hands lol.

Yes, i've posted a piano improvisation around january i think. http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2011015/Piano%20Improvisation.html#Post2011015

Clearly my arpeggio's are kinda sloppy at times as u can hear. Currently working on various Waltzes for softer playing and the Chopin Revolutionary Etude to get it more evenly. It's a challenge but it'll work itself out soon i hope. Good idea. I will perhaps show a video soon to show how i'm progressing.

Keep up the good work, man.

Hey GregSTB:

Of course! I remember now. Thanks for reminding me of that post. It helped move me in the direction of sharing this improvisation in the first place.
