Does such a thing exist? Might it be better in some respects than the weighted hammer actions we`re using? Just a thought, based on some experience . . .

- most of the synth keyboards I used in the 80s were spring loaded, probably a bit like a piano accordian. Potentially quite fast and 'effortless' but in a horrible way.

When are you going to get the Galaxy D piano?

Galaxy D is embedded in me brain right now. . . .tomorrow is the day of action. When it comes . . .I`m a bit busy on this Grieg thingy at the moment . . . it`s harder than Mendelssohn methinks!

Best probably asked on the keyboard forum. We seem to be stronger here on DP's, they seem to be stronger on keyboards and synths.

"Decent non-hammer" - for what type of music?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't every Nord keyboard, except the Nord Piano line of course, just have spring loaded keys with no hammers? Kind of the expensive way to go though - ditto for the VAX77.

If you want this for classical pieces, I think the VAX77 with its HD MIDI data output (and hefty price tag) would be the only real choice to capture all your classical playing nuances. Stevie Wonder says its the best piano keyboard action he's ever tried. Users say it does take some getting used to though, if you come from an AP or hammer-weighted DP background.

Interesting thread - let us know if you find any other solutions.

I`ve chaned the title to clarify things. Use is for general piano. Plus other instruments. Maybe someone uses such a key action and finds it good . ..

The nicest multi-use keyboard I've played is the one found on Yamaha cp5 - it's also on the cp1, (NW-STAGE keyboard). It is nearer to being a piano keyboard as it is hammer action. However, it is equally weighted across the range, unlike most digital pianos (and real pianos).

It is, for a 'piano action' super light. On the other hand the keys are firm with a nice balanced feel. Perhaps the idea was to make a keyboard that was both agreeable for pianists and yet versatile as a high grade keyboard controller for other instruments, too. I think Yamaha succeeded.

Although I prefer a hammer action for piano, I found the Roland VR-700 surprisingly decent for piano (and great for organ). If you're looking for something low cost, I'd check out the NumaCompact.
