I have a pair of HD595s, the precursor to the HD598. AFAIK they're pretty alike. I'm really happy with my pair, they're super durable and sound great. If you can find a pair used somewhere (not in production anymore i think), then you might get a better deal than if you buy a new pair of HD598s.

Does anyone have any experience with the latency on the Sennheiser RS220s, by the way? I read on their webpage that the latency was supposed to be about 20ms, but I also heard someone saying that the latency wasn't a problem even when playing DPs. I sure would love not having to worry about my headphone cable all the time, but 20ms of latency sounds awful.

Ive always done the throw the cable over the shoulder trick. It's also best that the cable is long enough so that most if it is lying on the ground and and is hanging vertically from your head.

After two pairs of Sennheisers (over 8 years or so) I took the plunge and got Beyerdynamic DT 770s and I don't really see the big deal about Sennheisers anymore. The build quality is just so much better with just about the same price. I'd love to get my hands on DT 990s which are kind of the open version of DT 770s.

Why noone is talking about Sony?
Their are the best headphones manufacturer from 20-30-40 years?

Sennheisers are in my opinion overpriced, to much marketing in them and sound muffled.

You might like to know that the AKG K451 won the Best Headphones award in 2012 in What Hi-Fi? magazine, and it's in your price range (£50 - £100). (www.whathifi.com)

Its construction is described as 'hefty' so it's obviously built to last, though also portable.

Debrucey is seeking for a circumaural HP - which I can only understand.

All on-ears I used get uncomfortable, even irratating in a longer session.

You mean you are the only one here who can understand that, or do you mean that you can relate to that?

I can fully understand him for that for the reason I wrote - the steady contact and pressure on the ear lobes was never a natural experience for me. But can be different for other people or with this specific HP which I didn't try.

(The AKG-K451 recommended by Bennevis is an on-ear HP.)

The review described the 'snug fit around your ears', so I assumed they are 'around ears' headphones......(but you're probably right, judging from the size of the cups in the photo).

Because other than the R10 and Qualia (both discontinued for quite a while now) Sony isn't really in the top tier of headphone manufacturers.

Sennheiser makes a wide variety of headphones. I'm sure a few of their cheaper models could be described as muffled, but that is hardly an accurate blanket statement (definitely not for their higher-end models).

Playing since April 2010.
