I am going to say third one. It sounded slightly out of tune in spots

I agree with scepticalforumguy, the middle one (#2) is the real piano... just my .02. Rick

To me #1 sounds most realistic. Maybe it's just my imagination, but something just seems off about the decay of the notes in #2. #3 is my least favorite by far. I had a fairly tough deciding between #1 and #2 though. Whichever of those is actually the VSTi, I'd be interested in knowing which library it is.
Listening live, the difference between an acoustic and even a very good digital is obvious. It's much harder to tell from recordings because although they're "virtual" instruments, sample libraries are recordings of real pianos too, only processed a bit more. What this comparison does demonstrate (at least to me) is if your goal is to produce a recording, virtual instruments can be a good substitute for the real thing.
Of course, I only get to play on an acoustic once per week during my lesson, so most of my experience is on a digital - I wouldn't be shocked if I was wrong, and the acoustic owners above were correct in picking #2.

The middle one. One o` the notes had THAT ring to it. But the resonance tail off suggests maybe not . . They all sounded like software pianos, and good ones at that.

#3, it's hard to capture the bass in a real piano and this one had less (though still plenty), the sound is also not compressed. The first 2 sounded a bit compressed and looking at the waveform they look more compressed. Whichever is real the tuning was superb.

I think #3 is the real piano.
1 didn't ring true at all like a piano in a can. 2 had a very un-natural sustain.

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

Well a quick listening seems to show a different soundstage/stereo field from number 2 but not sure if that means anything.

I'm voting for #3. It's a testament to the quality of digital pianos that it's not a slam-dunk easy decision among so many piano experts.

I'm voting for #1 although my computer speakers leave much to be desired! There seemed to be complexity that the other 2 were lacking. I have to agree with Phil above, though, about the toughness of the choice. I'm far from 100% confidence in my vote!
