This is a game similar to Name That Tune, but with piano repertoire. Here are the rules:

I will start by naming any of the 88 notes on the piano. The notes will be named such that the lowest note on the piano is A0, the highest is C8, and Middle C is C4. More information on this system can be found in this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano_key_frequencies
The person who responds will name a solo piano work which begins with that note. Enharmonic spellings are NOT allowed. The piece must start with a single note, it can't be part of a chord. Transcriptions of chamber or orchestral works do not count.
After that, they will name a new note for the next person, and so on.
I think that's about it. Have fun!

Starting note: D2

By the way, I forgot to mention: all movements of multi-movement works count. So, for C2, you could say either the first or third movement of Beethoven's Waldstein.

Thinking about F6 now...it's a hard one.

Edit: I think I'm stumped. Maybe someone else can come to the rescue. grin

All right, I think it's time to admit that Joel won the game, and start a new round. grin

Chopin op.27/2.

Good game! I never realized how rare it is for a piece to start with a single note.

I think Joel should have to answer his own question for the win, but whatever. smile

Interesting game. Perhaps an indication of the era could make the game flow a little easier.

Naming any piece that starts on D2 wins? I don't understand the rules.

For D2 I kinda like Chopin Prelude #24 better. Can we start over?

I guess the winner is whoever stumps everyone else.

New rule?

How about when you name a key, you must already have a piece in mind, to be sure that a piece actually does start with that note.

New game?

I'l start:

On the contrary; I'm finding many pieces that begin with a single note, and I didn't have to look very long and hard. These are all from solo piano standard repertoire :

A3
Ab1 :
Ab2, Ab2 :
A#4 :
B2 :
B4 :
B5 :
Bb6 :
Bb5, Bb5 :
C1 :
C4 :
C5, C5 :
D3 :
C#2, C#2, C#2 :
C#3 :
D2 :
D4 :
D5 :
Eb2, Eb2, Eb2 :
E2, E2 :
E3 :
E4 :
F2 :
F3 :
F5 :
F# 2 :
F#3,
F#4 :
G2, G2, G2 :
G4 :
G#2 :
G#4 :
G#5 :

etc., etc., etc.

Not sure about Eb3. I'll have to think about it. How about E3 for the next person to answer?

So on the table now are Eb3 and E3.
