I recently caught Eric Harland, the drummer's band called Voyager, primarily to see Taylor Eigsti on piano and Julian Lage on guitar. They were great.

Taylor is in my view one of the top young guns on keyboard, along with people like Jason Moran, Robert Glasper, Gerald Clayton and Vijay Iyer. Eigsti gets a bit less press play, in my view because the others are more "innovative." To my taste, however, I'd rather listen to him play than the others.

To get a good start on his playing, for free, try this session of piano jazz rising stars: http://www.npr.org/2012/02/09/145058191/taylor-eigsti-on-piano-jazz-rising-stars.

He's only got about two CD's out as a leader, although he plays a lot with singer Gretchen Parlato and several others.

Check him out and help support a rising young jazz player!

What a beautiful interpretation of "Here's that Rainy Day". His choice of voicings was really really nice.

I picked up his last cd - the blue one - lots of tunes with a singer - I thought it was good but it didn't blow me away.

RonL: I pretty much agree about that CD. It's my least favorite item in his output. I'm just not that into the singer, Becca Stevens.
