Hello
I have been asked to accompany a band for a song (Alice cooper)
But I cannot find neither score, nor midi file for the piano part
I can only find tabs for the guitar
So, my question is: is there a kind of tools which could produce a score for piano accompaniement based on tabs (or chords) ? (I know, it looks like that I am dreaming... crazy )

If you know the chords, and can play piano, you don't need other tool than a pencil and a piece of paper!

Man, it's Alice Cooper, not Rachmaninov! And you're the pianist of the band, so if you have a tonic you should know how to play the main chords in that scale.

enzo, we're talking about music, right? The more you use your ears to decipher what you hear and then put that information down on paper will make you a better musician.

The best musicians use their ears and by using your ears the chore of transcribing what you hear to paper will keep getting easier.

Electricity makes us stupid. When the power goes out those who depend on software to do the heavy lifting will be at a decided disadvantage.

Dave,
I must admit you are right, but the song I am talking about has a real "nice" piano score, it not just a matter of accompaniment (Alice Cooper: The quiet room) and unfortunately, I have no knowledge about composing or transcription by ear.
I am trying to learn that as fast as I can, but I need something quite quickly, it was the reason of this request.
By the way, I will forsake this idea and try something by myself, even if the result will never be as good as the original frown

If you're looking for software, you could try Band-in-a-Box. Fairly pricey, but it generates a band accompaniment based upon Chord Progression and musical style that you input.

You could perhaps then base a piano accompaniment on (or a combination of) the voices generated by Band-in-a-Box.

Not wanting to put a damper on things, but if you cannot transcribe by ear, or follow the chord sequence from the band members, then maybe playing in a band is not for you, and you should be up-front with the other members about it.
No software tool is going to help you play in a band.

Hello ROB
You are perhaps right, even If really want to try, but do you mean that for playing in a band, you must have some improvisation capabilities ?
because, I am not talking about simply following chords (I can do that,), but really having a nice piano score around the theme..in fact some improvisation (I was not looking for a automatic accompaniment software but for a tools which writes scores around scores and theme) .
By the way, I have a pure classical background, and I am used to follow score..that is life
and there is a start for everything (otherwise you never progress)
I will try..I will keep on trying.

That all depends on the type of band you are playing with.

If the band plays solely from scores, then, you will need to do so also.
Most bands I have been involved with, rely heavily on improvisation skills.
To be honest, when covering another artiste's material, I believe that to follow the original, note for note, is no better than playing a CD.

I understand what you mean, but that would say that Classical pianist are only more or less good CD players ?

This song is an example of the piano carrying the whole weight of the song. I understand coming from a classical background and asking the question you asked. If you did enter the chords in a program (if it exist)what that program would output would not be the part this piano player composed.

This piano player wrote this part. This albums musicians were all rock and studio pros.
David Foster, for what it's worth, is one of the pianist credited on the album.

I would start with getting the chords and trying capture the rhythmn of the song in a recognizable manner. If you get that, the little embellishments can follow.
