I've been wondering about how much more WN&G carbon-fiber shanks cost than high-quality wooden ones.

Thanks for any guidance,

-Andy

Last time that I checked WNG shanks and flanges were just about the same price as Abels.

Greetings,
They are cheaper. A lot cheaper. The initial cost to purchase is about the same, but going over the pinning ( we all DO check all the pinning on all the parts we use, don't we?), the WNG shanks take approx. 20 minutes of checking the tension, and maybe, repining one. All the wooden sets I used took an hour, at least. The time taken to travel the wooden parts is longer, as is the time to straighten hammers after hanging. Time is money.
The cost isn't always the best way to compare value, but a shop that just bolts parts in and calls it a rebuild can have the WNG parts for the same price. The shop that is trying for artistic response will find them cheaper than working with wood.
Regards,

Not to mention the time saved by not having to repin all those that have tightened up or loosened up six months down the road. And that is after you've done your due diligence and gone through the initial inspection/repining process.
