It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of a dear Piano World friend. Jerry Groot has passed from us.

Let us all remember his delightful humor, cheerfulness, and incredible skill as a tuner and technician. Through the years, he has openly shared all of these with us through these forums.

With a smile, remember him always.

I am shocked and so very sorry to hear this. What happened if I may ask?
My deepest condolences to his family. We've lost a good friend here on PW.

Sophia, this is what I shared in the Tuner/Tech Forum:

I'm not sure if sadness or anger is my primary emotion. Either way, it is all part of grief. Jerry was only 56 years old.

Many of you will remember that Jerry had gallbladder surgery in mid-January. Even with a month of recuperation, Jer had not strengthened as expected. Finally, on 2/21/13, he was diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. He and Cozette were given the choice of treatment or following a natural course of events.

Jerry underwent two courses of chemotherapy at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL. On 3/21/13, Jerry decided to go on Hospice, rather than continue with treatment.

He was surrounded with the love of his family and friends in his final days. He and Co had sponsored a number of exchange students and one of their exchange daughters flew from Hong Kong for a final visit. Such was the love which surrounded our dear friend.

Think of Jerry with a smile as you remember his delightful humor. Jerry always loved a "good one" and was the author of many.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this sad news. Jerry and I were the same age... I had no idea he was having health issues. He would complain a little about his back hurting, but he usually made a joke out of it.

He will be missed but not forgotten...

Thanks for sharing this news with us, Marty.

That's awful news. My condolences to his family. He was way to young for this.

Marty, thank you for that information. This is so sad-- Jerry was far too young to leave his family and friends. He will be greatly missed here at PW.
RIP, Jerry.

Oh my,

This is very sad news. Gerry was a good technician, but a wonderful guy and a dedicated family man. I wish I had had the opportunity to spend more time with him in person.

Rest easy Gerry. You are missed.

So sorry to hear this terrible news. Gerry was a major contributor to this forum and Pianoworld is all the better for it. He had nearly 7000 posts and was one of the most respected members of the Pianoworld family. I'm in shock, I know we are not promised tomorrow, but it is always a shock when someone leaves us much too young.

Thanks Marty for the update.
That's unexpected, he was posting on PW just a few weeks ago.

Bad news always come with some reflections.

Although I did not know Jerry, he was always optimistic about every topic he was involved in.

Always ready to provide help and good insight when asked.

We need more Jerrys in this forum.

My condolecences to his family.

Sorry to hear this... frown Although I didn't know him personally, I enjoyed reading his posts. He sounded both competent and funny - the right combination for a great guy.

That's so sad. I didn't know him personally, but whenever I saw posts with his name on the forum I knew something helpful and positive would be forthcoming.

When I bought my first grand piano, he left a nice comment in my thread. We'll miss him here. frown

My condolences to his family and friends.
