thumb Very nicely played SJFAN.

Maybe a tiny bit slower than the original but that's so good for me to hear because most Ragtime I hear played is just simply played too fast! As the man himself said "Never rush a rag". A lot of his original scores clearly state at the top "Not too fast" and yet most people like to perform them faster than they should be played.

At first, she only flew when she thought no one was watching.

Hi there, SJFAN! My one general comment is that you're taking the rag too fast. For me, the appropriate tempo is one you established in the last section of the rag. I would use that tempo for ALL sections, because it will give you time to shape the music. This is IMO intended to be a very charming, beguiling rag, and you're missing some of the inherent charm in your quest to maintain the pulse at your present tempo.

But overall, a nice clean presentation -- and thanks for sharing this!

I'd suggest 100 - 108 to the quarter note. At the outset, that will feel slow, but the trick is to sustain that tempo throughout the entire piece. I think that tempo will also allow you time to "shape" some of the material aprropriately.

It's really nice to see ragtime getting some love in PianoWorld forums of recent.

Really enjoyed the performance.

SJFAN -- Just occurred to me that rags are notated in 2/4 time, not 4/4 -- I'm recommending 100 - 108 to the eighth-note, not the quarter note! The latter would be REALLY fast.
