I am starting out as a piano tuner from The American Piano Tuning School in California. I am on lesson 4 and have only done the written parts, I have not done any actual piano repair/tuning as of yet. The only piano I have to learn on is my grandmothers 5 octave miniature marco polo piano from the 60s.
This is a ok piano to learn piano tuning on at the moment? I have limited space at the moment only piano to fit in my apartment besides a electronic keyboard which is no help in this.
Thanks!

If you dont know....ask!

It's probably OK for learning some things. It's better than nothing.

But since you are paying the American School of Piano Tuning, you should ask them as well. They can tell you if this piano will meet their course requirements.

Good Luck! smile

Lift up the lid and shout down into the piano MARCO. If you hear the piano answer back POLO you are good to go! (Sorry, I just couldn't resist.)

Really, you must have experience with many different pianos in order to develop a hammer technique that will result in a stable tuning. It doesn't matter how "good" the tuning is when you finish it. What really matters is if it will stay in tune for the next few weeks, and if the environment is stable, for the next few months.
