I thought these pianos had been around for three or four years, if not more, already?

The new CFX at the SF Jazz Center should get its premiere with the Hiromi concerts next week.

The CF series is the high-end series introduced just a couple of years ago. This is more like a model changeover of the regular C-series...like C3 (L) or C3 (A)...now C3 (X). On the piano, it is the little letter.

There are numerous favorable changes announced in October but it isn't a new series. The new models trickle in as Yamaha sells through existing inventory. I'm sure it will be nice to see a selection of them in one place.

The CF Series has not been around that long in the USA, Sam. Although you are correct - they introduced them at Frankfurt 3 years ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH9_rMfcXic

I have never seen one. Nor have I yet seen a CX series grand.

And I have looked. At the largest Yamaha dealer in N America, supposedly (at least at 2 of their several stores here).

I did see a Yamaha C3XA a couple times. Very impressive, and it was unlike any Yamaha I had played at the time.

I hear the CX is even better but you couldn't prove it by me.

I'm quite sure the largest CFX has been used at the Mannes IKIF festival for three years and probably longer. Similarly, for concerts at the Yamaha concert salon in NYC.

Yeah the concert grand. But not the smaller sizes.

Our friend in the U.K. Chris Venables received his first CF Series grand just this past July

See this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5uXsLZ5Dss

I know that isn't the USA - but still - I think you get the point.

I have never yet seen a CF4 or CF6

That doesn't mean they have never had one here in the Bay Area, but I haven't seen one.

No matter - I can't afford one anyway! Haha

The new CF4 and CF6 arrived in the UK at Chris Venables just a few months ago. I played and recorded on the CF6, and it's a hugely powerful instrument - in fact, as powerful as the CFX.

The CX series arrived late last year, when Yamaha did a big promotion with them at London's Royal Festival Hall.

The CX series (C1X - C7X) definitely only arrived last year. But the CFX concert grand was unveiled at the 2010 International Chopin Competition, where almost half the finalists (including the eventual winner Yulianna Avdeeva) chose to play on it, landing Yamaha a great promotional coup. (The other pianos competitors could use were Steinway D, Fazioli F278 and Shigeru Kawai EX).

The CF4 and CF6, I think, also arrived last year. They are the equivalent of Steinway B and C for smaller concert halls. Whereas the CX series are for home use and therefore not top tier grands.

The CF4 would be more the equivalent of a Steinway A

The CF6 would be the same size as a Steinway B

I thought these pianos had been around for three or four years.

Jeff

Pls clear up one thing for me if you can that I have been wondering about:

What the heck was the deal with the C3XA being introduced and then replaced with the CX series so quickly???

What was that all about? Did they explain that to you guys?

Thanks

This thread was about C(x) models. Obviously confused with CF models (that includes the CFX)

Even more confusing was the proto-type CX3A and CX6A (only 2 models) introduced at the same time as the CF models.

The CX3A is replaced by the similar C3(x). There are 6 models in the C-series. I swear I'm going to have to take photos.

To the point of others, the CF-series has been out but in extremely limited supply, rolling out gradually (also gives time to sell through older S-series).

So who here thinks that the confusion regarding the different series vs. model changeover vs. dealer ad choice is coincidental? wink

Furt,

I believe the “Class-XA” C-Series limited edition grands were made by Yamaha to help them understand how dealers and most important customers respond to the new design implementations. The "Class-XA" and "CX" are identical as far as features go. The only difference is the cabinet. The new "CX" series cabinetry feature some "CF" design cues.

Yamaha only manufactured 2 “Class-XA” models
C3XA 6’ 1”
C6XA 7’

Sam

I agree.

The thing is - Yamaha never said the C3XA and C6XA were "prototypes" as far as I know. It just seems that they were in retrospect.

They are real nice pianos. Real nice.

Yamaha is a really smart company - this seems like an aberration in their marketing efforts.

I haven't seen a CF yet as I mentioned, but even just from listening to the Youtube video of the fellow playing that CF6 which was posted on Youtube by Chris Venables - wow.

Of course, it is a Youtube video and you know what that can mean. But still...
