Hello and sorry if i'm in wrong forum but I would love some opìnions from (also) non classical pìanists.

Ovner of a restaurant where I hopeffuly soon will be playing a couple nights a week wants to buy a piano and we are considering the kurzweil cup2 .
The music is mainly to make ambiance with jazz standards or jazzed up latin and pop stuff plus some blues&boogy (after midnight if there is noisier drinking crowd at the bar)

I would apreciate if someone could give me advice if familiar with the kurzweil cup2 ,could that come as close to a real thing or are there other options in that price range (4000 euro) from yamaha, roland or kawai.

I've seen some youtube reviews on various models but still would love to hear some nonpartial opinions from you guys.

There is no way I can try them as we are in remote part of France.

Thanks, I checked the kawai ca95 and cs9 which I like a lot ,but kurzweil claims 140 watts and most of others clp, hp and mentioned kawai models are something arouns 40-50 watts, which I'm not sur would work in noisy restaurant,
and extra amplification is out of question. No cables and speakers around the setting,it must look elegant and like the real piano the sound must be coming from the instrument.

I read some piano forum threads on cup2 and comparisons with other brands,
and probably would go with ca95 or cs9 if it was for my home use but here is the question of power for public space with noise.

if this thread is more apropriate in dig.pianos area can you please move it over, sorry

Just something to think about:

Non-musicians respond significantly to what they see. For some, it's more what they see than what they hear (unfortunately).

For this reason, you might consider a used grand piano instead of an electronic. For ambiance, nothing beats a nice-looking grand. I realize that means fewer tables, and more upkeep, and it depends on the type of restaurant, but it's something to consider.

Only waht I know about Kurzweil is that CUP2 has very bright sound, what might be not the best option in restaurant.

Maybe you should also look at Yamaha 465-GP because of it's grand piano look, however it still can be to silent for you. Just to to the shop and check the sounds and how loud the piano is.

I think the best option for you will be Kawai CS6. Beautiful sound and 100W power (2x50W). The 140W on Kurzweil is total so all is how you measure the power smile
And it costs around the same as Kurzweil.

Thanks trombonal
I thing also acoustic grand is the best and I found some secondhand ones for half price of kurzweil cost but the boss won't hear of it ,he says too much trouble (I'm still trying to convince him that there is nothing like the real thing)

Thanks kapelli
I like the cs9 very much and read some favourable reviews on it and it looks the way to go as 2x50watts should be enough.
The yamaha 465gp ,which I tryied in a store and like but I'm not sure I like the keyboard action which I suspect inferior to cs9 or cup2(as also the other two are wooden)but in yamaha case we like the image of grand piano and pianist facing the audience option but also its more shy speaking about volume.

you should think between CS6 and CS9 from Kawai.

The acoustic grand for 3k USD needs one more thousand to sound and another one to look (most of the time).

If you are talking about used uprights, you can buy very fine instrument for the price much lower then CUP2 which will be of course after restoration.

in the DP piano you don't need the maintenance and there's no need to think about the placement of piano so this is good.

One more - try to look something with warm sound (both digital or acoustic),
however on each you will have some possibilities to change the sound a little.

PS I prefer acoustics wink

Thanks Kapelli ,yes that's true there are certain advantages to DP ,the option changing the sound for different styles of music is a plus too.

Are you happen to be familiar with yamaha clp480 ?
if yes how would you compare it with cs9 touch and sound ,cs9 image is obviously much nicer to my taste.
