Adak, yes I live in a condo. I spent lots of time trying to archieve the noise control without sacrificing the tone. The back of piano is attached with 9 inch thick stonewool insulation between the backplate and window. It reduces the volume apximately by half, I stucked my ear next to the insulation I can hear nothing! So volume is only coming out from front. Tones are arguably better!
To stop the impact vibration sound, my floor already has a FIIC 60 rated underlayment, in addition to that, I laid 1/8 inch neoprene sheet, and FLOR rug tile on top of that. It has a very nice and thick vinyl composite backing. Similar installation has a very high IIC rating of 91. My caster cups have not arrived, but the backing of rug tile is surprisingly strong(not really changing shape) so I may not even need it. Now the piano sound like a loud speaker, it's abit louder in the room than from the player.

Galina, Fenix couldn't reach the pedal so he told me he will wait another few years to grow taller. How is your piano hunting goes? Are you still going for the August Forster?

Shaolin95 and halfstep, maybe the upper mid tone has a female singing voice. But my wife haven't approved the gender yet. Needs a family discussion!
the piano is suppose bought for my up coming daughter in June.

Haha, we might be waiting a little while to find out if the Pleyel is a girl or boy smile congrats!

Congratulations Steven!

The Pleyals I have ever had the chance to play [Frankfurt Messe..] were among the best comparing well to the finest from Germany!

They had one Ferrari red 6' grand back then that shall forever stick in my mind...

Enjoy and congrats again!!

Piano infidelity is a common sin! - LOL - But a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. That kind of playin' around is just fine.

[video:youtube]http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plcp&v=et7UnrPY0Wo[/video]

I learnt piano myself during first year of college. Haven't played for 10 years just picked up 2 months ago.

The action are magically lightened after a week of playing. I don't know if it can get any better. One of my favorite upright action now ;D

Thanks!
I use tascam dr-05 portable recorder (less than 100$)
my professional studio frds recommended for me. I found it very convinent and the quality is more than acceptable.
i also own two studio microphones but they were both designed for vocal and were at my parent's house.

Great. I was going to but the Zoom H1 for the same thing..easier to get my practice recorded and running to my PC room to start Sonar and using my Blue mic laugh
I am too lazy! Now decided to get the H2N because of the extra options recording for more ambiance but indeed the quality is really good. Amazing what such small recorders can do these days. smile
As a musician you might enjoy this test someone did with the H2N, specially with headphones smile

Thats some amazing spatial effect for H2N. I have read that for piano recording AB works better than XY.
But I need to play around more, right now the recording sound a lot thinner than the the piano does and the ambient sound is not there.

I am for sure getting the H2N to record myself..I think that will help me improve my skills just like it did for my singing or a mirror does for dancing. smile
Let me know how your test goes.

i must say piano is such a difficult instrument to record. while most the attemps were acceptable, they all sound different from the original.
