I've decided that my performances will be more entertaining with a few funny songs. For example, I'm planning on doing this one:

and a jazz version of this one:

Any ideas of tunes that are funny or amusing and not too difficult to sing?

If you want amusing songs, you should look at musical comedies.
How Much I Love You and The Trouble With Women from One Touch of Venus have great lyrics by Ogden Nash, his only adventure into lyric writing. Cole Porter had a good sense of humor: Never Be an Artist, I Hate Men, Brush Up Your Shakespeare. So did Bernstein: Officer Krupke, The Wrong Note Rag, Ohio, Let's Go to My Place.

Some songs are amusing when you hear the verse. I Guess I'll have to Change My Plans is really funny when you hear that the entire love affair was over before the singer even meets the girl. It makes me think of Bob Hope, who had The Road to Morocco and Buttons and Bows.

You have to know your audience to do Was I Drunk, Was He Handsome, and Did My Ma Give Me...

Al,

There's a great bit called "Prinderella and Cince" that's hilarious - just google it. It's a storytelling of all spoonerisms accompanied by your piano. The best part, I think, was at the "moke of stridnight, when Prinderella slopped her dripper". Give it a try! thumb Good luck!

Ira Gershwin and Kurt Weill wrote a song in spoonerisms for The Firebrand of Florence. I think the last lines were:
He: And so I offer wedless bliss.
She: I'd rather it were bedless wiss!

Look into Andy Razaf's lyrics, too. My Handyman had a sequel: My Handyman Ain't Handy No More. Ruth Brown did a great song, If I Can't Sell It about a chair, of course. I think that is Andy Razaf, too. Mr. Christopher Columbus certainly is.

Save the Bones -- that's the kind of thing I'm looking for.

The Handyman song is great, and so is the Chair song, but I don't think those are going to work for a guy singer.

One of the funniest songs ever written: I Crept Into the Crypt (Liz Anderson)

The lyrics on the page I linked to have a couple of errors.

You might check out some Mose Allison songs, e.g., Your Mind Is on Vacation (and Your Mouth Is Working Overtime), Somebody Gonna Have to Move, Your Molecular Structure, etc.

John Prine "In Spite of Ourselves"

It's a bit risque but funny. I saw John at a Portland Zoo concert a couple years back after he had recovered from throat cancer. His voice is still the same.

Y-y-y-you you tell her, cuz
I-I-I-I-I I stutter so;

There were a bunch of stutter songs around this time, including the more famous K-k-k-katy, beautiful Katie, etc.

"Let's Do It" by Cole Porter was risque-funny back in the day. Dave Frishberg's "I'm Hip" was a nice poke at the faux beatniks.

Don't forget the classic, "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," by Tom Lehrer.

Actually, don't forget ANY song by Tom Lehrer. They'll all fit what you want to do.

How about Lydia the Tattooed Lady; I'm Lonely In My Saddle Since My Horse Died; Don't Pick Your Nose When the Next Car Comes (the hitch hiking song); I Don't Care if it Rains or Freezes, I am Safe With my Plastic Jesus, Riding on the Dashboard of My Car (I think the title might just be titled Plastic Jesus); The All Night Laundromat Blues; Drop Kick me Jesus Through the Goal Posts of Life; and last but not least, May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose.

Better off without a wife (Tom Waits). The speech before the song starts is hilarious too.

I could never consider Miss Otis Regrets to be funny nor amusing.

TromboneAl, the one thing that came to mind for me was the "Abe Burrows Songbook" -- all of which were parodies of popular music cliche songs. They didn't all ring my bell, but some were genuinely hilarious. I believe he published that book sometime in the '50s or '60s -- it may still be available.

Thanks for the tips. The ones I'm going to do are: Slappin the cakes, Nose was running money,

I started learning this one, which I think is hilarious, but the first four people I played it for thought it wasn't at all funny, what do you think?

It's ok to me, not that funny and a bit boring musically. Just my opinion.
+1 on Tom Lehrer. Definitely one of the best when it comes to musical comedy. I'd recommend "Pollution":

Yes, I've got to do some Tom Lehrer someday, but it will take a lot more memorizing effort.
