Hi,

Haven't done this before on the forum, but thought - why not ask for opinion of PianoWorld knowledgable community people about one of my piano compositions.

It can be listened and downloaded for free here:

Interlude

It's a first available track from my upcoming debut solo piano album that will come out at the end of May this year.

What do you think ?

Hi there, EO3! For me, it has a pleasant "New Age" quality; the most notable element is the slightly off-kilter rhythmic pattern, which you were able to sustain throughout and which held my interest. Personally, I'd like to see more modulations and harmonic development; perhaps an entire second concept -- but this was quite pleasant to listen to. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with Tim. Pretty standard new age stuff, but the quarter quarter 3:2 triplet rhythm gives it some interest.

Some more harmonic interest might be nice, but it depends on what your intended audience/use is. For background music during dinner, I think what you've got is fine. If the music is supposed to be the center of attention, then I don't know if it has enough character/story to stand on its own.

In my opinion it sounds like doodling on the piano. Some doodling is interesting some is not. I guess it all depends on the listener. Good luck with your cd.

EO3,
I like how you've expressed your musical ideas clearly and simply, without exaggeration of emotion.
Does this piece relate to further compositions in your compilation?
I think it's a nice piece.
It seems like there is also room for musical expansion and expression.

I would say that this piece doesn't relate to my other work necessarily in a specific way, because as far as album goes, my intention is for it to be a very eclectic selection, different in styles. Having said that, it's still in the process of recording/figuring out what compositions to leave in&out, so ...

Dear EO3

I thought both rhythmic motive and melodic motive brought unity throughout the piece. There were enough contrasts both in melody and dynamic to make the piece more interesting.

The name of the song seems suitable as it works to connect or come in between. It is a nice piece with interesting sound.

Paldies/Thanks/Merci once again. smile

On the point of the structure and variety of melody - I find that it's important to have the right balance. To not have too much in it and also not very simplistic. Because improvising and adding things can go on and on.
