I have a casio, which has a cheapy plastic sheet music stand. Which is fine for the 40 page books or individually printed out sheets.

But I bought a 300 page Chopin book, and it doesn't look like it would hold it securely.

Since I don't want a free standing stand. As there is no space, is this a good idea?

If I change the angle to say 4 o'clock and stick a piece of wood in there, surely this would be an OK music stand right?

Or does anybody else have a better solution?

Depends on how 'deep' your DP is. This works if you have sufficient depth available.

If you have access to a photocopier or scanner/printer you could just print out pages of the score that you're working on. If the chopin book has a spiral binding, you could also just take out the spiral part, get a 3 hole punch and a 3 ring binder for it.

In my opinion your best bet is to do what fizikisto suggests: make a copy of the pages you are working on. You can use them loose, tape them together so they are one long sheet, or put them in a small binder. Much more convenient.

Regular bound music books are a serious hassle in my opinion. Best to scan the relevant pages. Actually sometimes I will cut the binding off and make my own spiral bound version of the original book. That works too.

+1 on the copy a few sheets for yourself whilst studying them. That's what I do. They end up dog eared, pencilled, finger marked, coffee cup ringed and so on. Works of art just like the resulting music
