Hello,

I would be interested to know
what kind of level/grade a pianist must be before approaching
Bach's aria in the Goldberg variations for Count Kayserling -
and is it possible to find a score with the fingering of this aria?

Thanks from Kristina.

Kristina,

Personally I don't hold with the whole level/grade system idea, because every pianist is different and has different strengths and weaknesses, and therefore there is no absolute way to measure "difficulty", even assuming "difficulty" is only technical.

What is your experience and what repertoire have you played in the past? Do you have a teacher?

Regards,

Polyphonist

The Kalmus edition has some fingerings, http://www.amazon.com/Goldberg-Vari...s=bach+goldberg+variations+sheet+music#_

On the other hand, it doesn't have the ornaments written out, which was my main issue when picking this up a few years ago.

ISMLP has a number of versions of the score available for free, ISMLP Bach Aria

While these free scores usually don't have fingerings, the link above has the ornaments fully written out.

I'd rather play badly than not at all...

Thank you, Polyphonist
I agree with what you say and I shall continue at my own pace
and it probably is best to disregard a standard approach.

Thank you, Carlos 88
for the link to the Kalmus Edition and ISMLP.
I shall go for the Kalmus Edition to get some “lead”
about my fingering.
I have been working on my fingering in part one of this Aria,
but part two seems much more tricky with the fingering
and I need some guidance there.
Thanks again to both of you and kind regards from Kristina.

There is a member here who played it in one of the ABF Recitals - Peyton. Hope he doesn't mind me posting a link: Aria from Goldberg Variations - Peyton

You might want to send him a message and see what music he used.

Sam

Thank you, Sam S,
for posting the link to Mr. Peyton’s inspiring interpretation of the Aria
on this wonderful Pramberger Grand.

Thank you, supertorpe,
for sending me the fingering of the Peters Edition,
it is just what I needed and is very much appreciated.

Thanks to you both again from Kristina.
