I am trying to play the just-released music for "Paperman" (the Disney short black & white cartoon that played before Wreck-it Ralph). If you haven't seen it, it's great (check it out on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rqmh1GoZjnw). The music is really good, too, and I purchased an arrangement of it on musicnotes.com. However, though it is billed as a "solo" arrangement, it seems like I need 3 hands to play it! Does anyone have any suggestions for playing this music? I scanned one of the pages (http://bit.ly/XWvqTj) and as you can see there are three parts (treble clef, bass clef and cue notes in between). How am I supposed to play these cue notes while also playing the other lines? Is there some kind of advanced playing technique that I need to develop, or is it just a bad arrangement (i.e., should be duet)? Any help would be appreciated smile

By the way, the cue notes are pretty important -- the song doesn't sound the same without them, so just dropping them isn't an option ...

It looks like a solo part, with the small notes indicating voices to be played by other instruments. I am afraid that if you want to play it as a solo, you will need to make an arrangement from this. Alas, music does not always come in the form you might want it to be.

The video was very cute but I don't think the music would make a very interesting piano solo. I could be wrong. I only listened to it once. Try the theme from 'Forrest Gump'...more suited for the piano.

Thanks for the input - I went ahead and created my own arrangement (quite disappointing to purchase piano music expecting to be able to play it and then find that it is terribly arranged). Had to drop some of the notes, but overall I think it turned out pretty good.

If that page you scanned and posted is indicative of the rest of the piece, you purchased the piano ACCOMPANIMENT to the piece. Those troublesome "cue notes" are the melody (such that it is!), and the counter-melody, that some other instrument needs to play.
