Hey everyone... A local guy has one for sale in great shape for $150. I think I might grab it. Seems like a good deal. Anyone have one? Can you tell me a little more about it... Is it a good organ to start on?

The M3 has a shorter key range than the B3, however the tone is supposed to be pretty good. Provided all the tone wheels are working, and everything looks in reasonably good condition, $150 may not be too bad. Perhaps offer $100, and accept $125?

Thanks for the info James! I have a buddy that's an electronic wiz... He designs and builds his own guitar tube amps from scratch, schematics and all.If there is an electrical problem I am sure he can fix it. :-) From the images this thing looks like it has been very well taken care of or refurbished at one time. I am thinking that for the price it might be a good way to see how I like playing an organ. This dude makes them sound gooooood.... :-)

Yes, it might be a good starter organ, however as is evident in the video, the key range is pretty short.

I grew up on a B3 and used that in clubs until Italian lightning struck the club one evening. smile After that I bought an M3 and used that.

I forget if it had 12 or 13 pedals ... for some reason I think there were 12.

I sold that M3 many years ago for almost nothing. It's not a bad organ and if you use it in clubs you'll want to make a back cover for it.

As far as I know, the Hammond M3 is the only authentic spinet organ soundwise to the larger B3 since it has the same percussion and vibrato system. The M100 and L100 spinets are great organs, but don't have the exact same sound. They do however have reverb, which the M3 doesn't.

The M3 does have 12 bass pedals which can be annoying. As far as I know, every other Hammond spinet has 13 pedals C to C.

If you're a jazz player used to playing left hand bass, a spinet organ probably won't satisfy you, but if you like playing left hand chords and bass pedals, it's a lot of fun.

Since I am a beginner and have no particular style. It seems like it would be fun to play with. I just got back from checking it out. That thing is in amazing condition and it sounds fabulous. I was expecting sort of a worn out sound from being as old as it is. It sounded like a new organ. I am trying to scrape the money together to get it. I spent it all on the NP2 last week. *shrug*

As you found out, it's got motors inside.

If you get the organ, my suggestion is to oil it immediately before using it. You can go online and find Hammond oil and instructions easily (don't use other kinds of oil). It's very easy to do the oiling.

Good luck, hopefully you'll get it!

If you end up buying the M3, be sure to lock down the tone generator before moving it. Here's one site that explains how to do that: Before you move your Hammond organ

Great info thanks!

Well I told the guy I had to pass for now. I am really really tight on funds at the moment. I am waiting for a check to hit the account that's backpay since June 2012. When that hits if its not sold I'll pick it up. :-)
