I'm looking to purchase the privia px-350 and was wondering has anyone ever tried playing back a vst such as ivory through the board's internal speakers? Is the quality any good?

A lot depends on what you like, expect, what you are looking for and the environment you play within.

Most, if not all, plug-ins are going to sound better than most, if not all, internal sounds of a digital piano. The built-in speakers are utilitarian. They cannot show off a sound at its best.

Usually I listen with headphones. I played a few times through the speakers at lower volumes and the piano was adequate when I did not wish to wear the headphones yet wanted to play. If I was going to use speakers often I would prefer a larger range that could only come with a more elaborate speaker system.

i do it on my piano, but I have 30 watts per channel and my on board speakers are really good. Although I know it would sound even better with a set of monitors. Why not look at the px150 and monitors? I don't think 8 watts is going to cut it for vst, be I could be wrong

I would go for the PX350, because it has better quality internal speakers when you do want to use them; and it may be a bit easier to put them through internal and external monitor speakers simultaneously because of its line out jacks (though there are other ways to do that). You may want to keep some sound coming out of the internal speakers even when using external monitors, just because of the more piano-like vibrations they generally impart to your fingers. Though I haven't tried that on the PX-350 in particular.
