Hi guys,
I saw a piano for sale which is a KG-8C. I tried looking it up, but I can't find any information on this model anywhere.
The serial number is 1150410. How old does that make it? When this piano is in good condition, how does it compare to similar sized pianos?
If in good condition, what range would you put its value? (I am aware this really depends on condition and location, but assuming good condition, can you give me an idea of private market to dealer market in a large US city?)

Hi Sam,
The KG-8 was a 9' instrument, and the serial number you provided places the date of manufacture as 1980.

Kawai has established an excellent reputation as a piano maker. Any piano which is over 30 years old and in original condition will need restorative attention of some kind and we can merely speculate about the condition of this particular KG-8C. In comparing this particular model to other makes of concert grand of its vintage, I would suggest that you do some research on youtube and judge for yourself. I saw, on youtube, a 1974 KG-8C which had had, according to the advertisement, some reconditioning work and it was on sale for US$24,000. Best of luck with your quest.
Kind regards,
Robert.

Thank you very much for the information! Anyone else have anything to offer? Depending on what kind of condition it's in, it could be worth less than $10,000 or somewhere around $30,000... I won't speculate without further info. It really depends on what, if anything, has been done to it in the past, and what kind of use it has been subjected to. Also consider geographic region.

I played the same model of piano for several years as the pianist at my church. It was an excellent instrument. Well made, beautiful sound, great action, real ivory keys. That piano was manufactured in the very late 70's. The last time I played that piano was about 1999 and it was holding up very well. The church had an excellent technician that put some time in the mechanics of the piano every time he came to tune. If the piano is in good condition it would be well worth a look.

My monther in law has a Rosewood KG-8C, vintange 1977. She is now 91 and the home she lives in is just too large. She is downsizing and will have to sell her Kawai. Other than a little sun fading the piano needs nothing. She has played it 2 hours every day and always it professionally cleaned and tuned. If anyone knows of someone looking for one, she is offering it for $15,000. If anyone wants pictures, just ask me coastal@best1.net.
