Hello,

I am looking for a used piano for serious practice - I'm an advanced intermediate player with 8 years of formal classical training, and my daughter has been taking lessons for over a year as well. I have a very small budget, but feel the need to upgrade from our current Technics DP circa 1996 to something with a more realistic keyboard. I've come across a 2003 Conover Cable CC-145 (45") being sold for $1200, which seems a steal compared to its bluebook value of $2800. The piano *should be* comparable to a Yamaha P22, and some people here say that these Korean/Indonesian Samick made pianos are actually quite pleasant and hold their own. Other sources online say one should stay away. So, would I regret owning this piano in 5 years? Anyone here with familiarity of this brand?

If you do not have issues with this piano now, you should not have any in 5 years if you maintain it properly, unless you decide you want something better.

I guess I'm specifically asking about sound quality rather than reliability. My play won't get any better - I don't have the time to practice - but my daughter will probably get to be fairly good in another five years. She's more talented than I was. I've never heard a Conover Cable before, and I wonder how it compares to Yamaha P22 and U1 type of piano in terms of sound. Of course, I'll play this instrument before buying it, but I have had a limited exposure to acoustics on this side of the pond - I grew up with the brands like 'Red October', 'Ukraine', etc smile

Update: this piano is basically the Samick JS-115, if someone has any experience with that one....
