I was clearing out my hard drive and stumbled across this very short and simple, pseudo-classical improvisation that I recorded in December 2011. Stupidly, I didn't make a note of which DP I recorded it on, but it seems to have the 7F's hallmark.

There are a lot of recordings made of the Nord Piano, the V-Piano and the CP5, and so I thought it might be worth putting this up (even if it is just a perfunctory and basic improv.) for those who are trying to compare the SN sound with others.

That's all assuming it is the 7F! I'd sold my own NP88 by then, but it doesn't sound like the MP6, and is a little too refined for the FP-4, so I'm going to stick with the 7F. wink

Yes - that sounds like the SN piano to me. Would it be grand piano 1? I still think that is the best piano available on the roland sn pianos until you get to rd700nx. It is more refined and alive sounding than the other two and the distinctly unsubtle rock piano.

It is a great piece - really nicely developed contrapuntal structure with harmonic drive and strong melodic lines.

But can I ask how you recorded it? The sound is similar to what comes direct from my HP302, but when I transfer recordings to the computer (via Behringer xenyx302USB) there is a pretty severe decline in quality, and the signal to noise ratio is very poor - you have to be careful to avoid peak distortion too.....it seems crazy to me that DPs don't simply have direct digital outputs....or do they?

Toddy, thanks for your comments. I was having a hard enough time trying to remember what piano it was, let alone how I recorded it!. It would probably have been direct into my laptop via either the mic-in or the Behringer UCA222 (although I'm not sure when I bought the latter). The software would have been Reaper.

I hate to confess it, but I don't actually know if there is some direct method of recording built into the 7F, other than making a MIDI file. Somehow, I think I would have found it by now, if there were such a device. As for digital outputs, I know it doesn't have those.

And yes, Grand Piano 1 is about the only sound I use on the 7F.
