I am living in Canada but will move to Colorado soon. People here follow RCM examination from Pre. to level 10 and my daughter is going to take a level 5 this month.

She like piano and is willing to continue learning it after we move to Colorado. We would like to know what is in Colorado instead of RCM.

Thanks, cool

Your daughter should continue to pursue the Royal Conservatory of Music Exams through the US national sister program. It was called The Achievement Program - http://www.theachievementprogram.org/, however, they just announced a name change to Royal Conservatory Music Development Program. Both programs in Canada and US are run by RCM in Toronto. The materials and exam requirements are identical for both programs, and adjudicators for the exams are also the same.

There are 3 exam centers in Colorado - http://www.theachievementprogram.org/teachers/assessment-centers-1. Contact the center rep if you have questions.

Izut, you would be better served if you also post this on the Piano Teacher forum of Piano World. There is certainly no reason for your daughter to continue with RCM exams in the US, where they have little stature, but as the above poster has explained, that avenue is open to you.

There are plenty of fine piano teachers in Colorado, who may or may not view exams as important to the musical education of your child.

There are plenty of reasons to continue with the exams especially for a child who has worked hard to level 5 already. If nothing else, the self-esteem of achieving something however small is important to a child's development. Besides, on a practical side, all the universities in the US do recognize the exams from RCM, ABRSM, CM, and such and expect a child who claims to play the piano to show their level of certifications achieved with the proper transcript. The highly competitive schools expect a pretty high level of achievement. The days of applying to college and just claim you play the piano as a hobby are long gone.
