Welcome to MOYD.

Thanks for the welcome I have re-looked at the first post it is very clear I usaly have short breaks when playing so this should be interesting.

Best Wishes for a Very Happy New Year to All!

And a big "Thank You" to Casinitaly, Cheryl, for managing the big job of hosting this again!

Please sign me up once more. Has definitely improved my playing and my teacher has commented several times in past.

Grazie Casi. Felice Anno Nuovo!

Woody- way to go!
Densi826,...that made my brain hurt smile
Molehill - it's my pleasure, and really, it isn't all that time consuming. These first few days take a little bit but the rest is just a wee bit here and there - it is a nice way to contribute to the community.

Venice Felice Anno Nuova anche a te - I suppose the others will have fun with online translators too!

Happy 1st day of MOYD to everyone!

MOYD saved me today. After a party that went until 3 am last night (way past my bedtime) it would have been easy to forget to practice today. But, with the incentive of MOYD I made it to the bench and had a good practice session!

Happy New Year everyone. First thing I did when I got up (at 4 am) was play the piano. Now we're packed and ready for road trip to Dallas. I'm bringing several books and my little rollup keyboard. The sound is awful but I can work on fingering if I get a chance. We'll be back Monday night and I hope to have no misses to report.

Thank you for keeping track of all this!

Please sign me up for 2013. I'm going to try for "pure" this year although the logistics of two weeks in Philly this April are going to make it interesting. smile

Happy New Year all!
I'm trying again for 2013.
I started out well in 2012 but ran out of steam in the last quarter following a death in the family. I suppose I could have asked for "excused" list but at some point I just quit caring.

Well, life must go on, and music makes me happy. This accountability group has kept me practicing on days I otherwise felt like giving up, I've got a teacher now who challenges me to stretch outside my box. But I still can't seem go get all the way through a piece without mistakes--perhaps my problem is concentration? Or commitment?
Anyway, I'm off to the piano for my first practice of 2013.

SwissMS, we stayed up a bit late last night, and I'm coming down with a cold... but still, yes, MOYD pushes us to the keyboard! I had a good sesion too - very pleased with my progress on my new barocque piece.

Wisebuff - 4am? You must have a digital! - or Silent feature! smile
Or a very patient family! Have a safe trip to Dallas. (I'm half-way tempted to get a roll up of my own for travel days......)

Tararex - I have never made it to the "pure" list - but there are some who do! Why not check out some piano shops in Philly and see about popping over for a visit while you're in town? You may even hook up with some PW folks!

Tinman1943, condolences on your loss. I think suffering a death in the family would either put me right off piano or push me to it to the point of obsession, one or the other. I'm glad to hear that music makes you happy - and if it brings joy to you, then you will be doing it for that pleasure, not for a MOYD sign up. As for Concentration and making mistakes: I don't know how long you've been playing, but I think the concentration issue is a big one especially for those of us who really started as adults.
I do find that my concentration seems to be improving a bit recently - maybe we just need to cover a certain amount of groundwork, laying foundations, before it starts to kick in. I still don't consistently make it through a piece without errors though - it is an on and off thing.

Yay! Thanks, I went and got the 2012 badge.

I was so amazed at how getting a better piano made me want to practice. My old crummy one sounded like a tortured cat. Well, my teacher encouraged me to upgrade and it made a huge difference in my desire to practice. My new-to-me piano would be considered the 'bottom of the line' Kawai but it is still such a massive improvement I can hardly believe it. I'll probably upgrade again in a year or two but wow, I really want to practice now. Just think how much better I'd be if I had ditched that awful thing a long time ago!

I'm doing the bar exam this Feb, so I'm a bit worried I might not be able to stick to my commitment to MOYD until March...I will try to at least tickle the keys from at least 10-30 min per day, as a break. Wish me luck!

Good luck indeed- the bar exam is quite a challenge!
