After a few frustrating evenings at the piano, I went web surfing and came across this, which made me feel immediately better. Check out 21:23 to 23:57 and then the very next one 23:57 to 24:25.

Let's see....

That first one is Rubinstein on Chopin's 2nd Sonata. Listening now -- so far so good.....what's gonna happen?
Still good....
Ooops, there he went. smile
It was just a slight goof. Will there be more??
Still listening, still OK.
Aha -- he "simplified" the end of the first section. Not on purpose, I guess -- I guess his fingers just forgot what to do and so he played 'by ear' how it sort of goes. And really, I think if I didn't know the piece, I wouldn't have known anything was wrong there. I wouldn't say it was real bad -- especially considering that he was in his late 70's. And IMO overall it was still a terrific performance.

Next one (Cortot): Was that really a mishap, or a purposeful variant that he had worked out?? All I know is, it works great. Unless I'm missing something about what's going on.

Thanks for posting this. I love these guys. smile

The end of the Schumann Fantasy Op. 17 would give me nightmares if I had to play it!
