I'm latching on to a Bagatelle, but I have no idea which one. It just sounds like it might be one. Probably not by Beethoven, though, since I don't think he wrote any in A-minor. Any of the experts have a clue?

I can tell you I've never seen or heard this piece before based on the OP's rendition of the notes they remember.

OP- do you no longer have the sheet music for it anywhere in the house? Do you remember if you played it out of a book, or off a photocopy? (Book would be better.. I'd ask if you remember what book?)

Every day we are afforded a new chance. The problem with life is not that you run out of chances. In the end, what you run out of are days.

Remember, he never said it was in that key. (And even if it was given in A minor in that study book, it wouldn't mean much.)

A couple of other posters took the key sort of seriously, and I think that's a mistake with things like this, including because often there is no attempt or intent to duplicate the actual key -- including in reference books.

I did go through all of the Beethoven "Bagatellen" not searching for A minor but searching for the theme as posted by the OP, but did not find anything resembling the theme he played. Won't I be embarrassed if it turns out to be a Bagatelle?

I don't think you'd be the first one here to be embarrassed. grin

BTW, looking up those notes in "Dictionary of Musical Themes" (transposed to C minor, as is needed), the closest examples are by Vivaldi and Frescobaldi. I don't mean I think it's by one of them -- those examples clearly aren't it. Just sayin'. smile

By the way, IMSLP also has a melody search engine if you want to try (these search engines are not very good though, I think they only work for easy pieces)..

I spent like 30 minutes on imslp looking up all kinds of obscure beethoven piano pieces and could not find anything that matched.

I think we need stores. He might know (although I am really not sure it is Beethoven).

A piece of Beethoven? I think there are still some locks of his hair out there.

Slow down and do it right.
