Greetings everyone! Glad you enjoyed the Sunday Classical extravaganza Recaredo and Rupak! Wayne, I really liked Jahmene Douglas's performance! He is very talented.

It seems our snowfall in Minneapolis was too much of a good thing. We're still digging out from a 16-inch storm, and I'm singing the blues! Well, I'm not doing the singing, however. I'll leave that to Jr. Wells and Buddy Guy performing "Hoodoo Man"

That's all I have time for. Off to work I go! Enjoy the rest of your day!

I'm still catching up with last week's postings.

It's a long time since I heard anything by Frankie Lymon that WASN'T Why Do Fools Fall In Love. But it was an important record. It was one of five singles that on May 2, 1956 topped both the Pop and R&B charts with Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins also topping the Country charts at the same time. The three charts were finally united musically and Rock 'n' Roll was established.

It's not often you get to hear them all together again. Enjoy.

OK, I'm getting a little carried away. smile

That's okay Richard! I love your enthusiasm! grin I'm so pleased we will now be doing our Sunday Classical postings on a regular basis from both Ireland and Minneapolis. Of course, anyone can contribute anytime they want to!

I'll be right back with my postings from this side of the Atlantic...or the "Big Pond", as Rossy often says. smile

Shhh! I'm supposed to be working right now. However, I enjoyed listening to this on my short break. Lovely!

How are things in Florida, PJ. I don't think you want to be in Minneapolis today, unless you like skiing! laugh

Back to work of me! It's over the hump day, and I'll have more time to post and listen on Thursday. Enjoy your day.

I was saddened to learn of the death Tuesday of Ravi Shankar, Indian classical music virtuoso. What a loss to the world of music. His contributions were immense.

I came across this short clip of 91 year old Ravi Shankar performing live in Escondido, California on October 2011, according to my notes from You Tube. This is all I'll have time for today. Peace!

So much true, Griffin! His death has left an irreplaceable emptiness in the world of music! Besides his unparalleled virtuosity in music, his humanity, affection and support for young talented musicians will never be forgotten. He was the creator - the 'father' of most of the modern Indian classical artists who got lessons from him and became famous because of his huge supports. May his soul reach the ultimate source of music!

BTW, thanks Griffin for these posts! It's really overwhelming for me to see your feelings about Raviji's death and your appreciations for his music! Your interest in ICM is highly appreciated!

Thanks Rupak! I first heard Ravi Shankar when I was a college student and I was mesmerized. However, you should know that you have deepened our understanding of ICM with your postings. I've learned so much because of your postings here on RST.

Good morning! I guess I'll be the first to post some music today. I have time for a few before I head to work. I never paid a lot of attention to Tango music until a few years ago when I first heard the Gotan Project, an ensemble based in Paris. Here is their live performance at Casino de Paris.

While Gotan's music involves tango, it also uses elements such as samples, beats, and breaks, according to my Wikapedia notes. Here is an example from their performance of "Mi Confesion"

That's it for me. I must be off. I'll check in later. Have a great day! smile

PJ, the La Vie en Rose was gorgeous. Thanks! We do, however, need to drop you off on top of a snow-covered mountain somewhere where you can ski down it wink I'm perfectly fine with the warm weather, but I've never really lived anywhere else. I think snow is cute for about an hour and then I get bored with it. I like sun and green plants!
Which reminds me, I need to plunk some petunias and snapdragons in the ground so I don't get depressed when everything else turns brown.

I was sad to hear about Ravi Shankar's passing also. His influence on music was immense, and he has had an amazing life. I was suprised to learn Norah Jones was his daughter. Didn't know that one.

Thanks for the Gotan Project postings Griffin! They were a lot of fun!

I caught part of the 1212 benefit for Hurricane Sandy the other night.. I found Adam Sandler's rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah rather entertaining grin

Griffin, thanks for introducing me to Grotan Project- I love their rather unique sound!

AimeeO, that Adam Sandler ALWAYS makes me laugh- I saw the benefit concert, too. Well, on TV. I was a bit saddened to see Billy Joel look...older and a bit subdued....was privileged to see him at a local university GYM in the late '80's and, honestly, that man had energy and fire in him, bouncing all over the stage!
Or, was that Garth Brooks? It's all a big blur now....

I still love BJ, but...a bit nostalgic, I guess.
