Hi All,
I've a choice to buy one of these DP, but I'm not able to make up a decision. I never played piano myself, this is for my son who is been taking lessons for last 3 years. I've budgeted 3k for this purchase, and have following choices,
CLP340 ($2400),CLP440 ($2700),
CA65 ($2600), and CA95 ($3500).
I (and my son as well) tried all the four pianos. Personally I liked all of them. Not having any musical background in piano or otherwise, I could only go over the technical details while comparing these pianos. I do know one thing for sure, is whatever I purchase now, should help my son in the future (transition) when he advances enough to play real piano.
Under 3k, I've only three options CLP340, CLP440 and CA65. I liked all of them but I didn't see any posts with direct comparison of these DP's. I don't know which one to buy?

I really appreciate any feedback/opinion from experts.

Personally. I love the Kawais feel and sound. I would take them over the CLP series, this is personal pref.

However I would say if it is for your son who has been playing awhile with a teacher on the teachers piano. What im getting at is his hands are going to be used that that pianos feel, tone, action etc. If you have a yamaha or Kawai dealer close try and go in a play one of these, take your son and see which he thinks feels best to him.

As I have said in my post about finding a piano I went to play a few and LOVED the kawais the best. The feel, the sounds, the look.. EVERYTHING about them.. However this is personal opinion to me.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we did try playing all the pianos and I liked all of them, while my son liked CA65 and CLP340. The guys in the Kawai shop let him play on K3 as well and he loved it. But it is just to expensive at this time.
For his classes, he did play on teacher's grand piano till last year but for last 4 months (since teacher moved), he is playing on the Yamaha keyboard (~$500) we have (I don't remember the name) and that's why we need to move to good piano, digital for now and may be an acoustic in 3-4 years.
Any other feedback?

I'm new to all this, but I'm going through a similar thing. If he's the primary player, have him decide. The 440, 65 and 95 of course are newer, and if in your price range should trump the 340.

However, where are you that you can get the 65 for 2600? The price paid list on this site has most sales in the $3000 range. I'm about to be VERY jealous, as I just agreed on a 65 for $3070 out the door.

A CLP340 for $2400? Not bad, though this is a discontinued model.

A CLP440 for $2700? That's reasonable, though you might be able to go lower. If it's the more expensive polished ebony finish, then this is a good price.

A CA65 for $2600? That's a very good price.

A CA95 for $3500? Is that new or used? If new that's a VERY low price. Too good to be true?

I'd get the CA95. Rave reviews. But that low price makes me suspicious.

I'm in Portland OR, USA. There is only one Kawai dealer (Michelle's Piano Company) in Portland area. Also, all the prices include delivery and tax, etc. I've above quotes from the dealer so it's true, really!!! And CA95 is a new one infact all are new pianos.

I agree w/ this from what I researched. Again I can only give my opinion. The CA65 is a great Digital Piano. IMO the kawai's are the best. Plus the CA65 is a good deal. I think the one I saw was just at 3000.

So my two cents - I do like the kawai's.

Wow! CA65 for $2600 and CA95 for $3500. If those prices are out the door prices, then it's a steal. Where are you located?

Hi,

I compared the Yamaha CLP-440, the CLP-470 and the Kawai CA65 recently at the store. The Kawai action had the smoothes feel and I instantly liked it. But I noticed that I was able to play much quieter notes on the Yamaha instruments compared to the Kawais. The inability of the Kawai to play very soft pp or ppp ruled the instrument out for me. Therefore I would suggest that you try to play softly on both instruments before you buy and see if this may be a concern for you.

Best
D

BTW, thanks for all the inputs. Yesterday I did another test, some thinking and placed an order for CA-65 for $2600 including delivery etc. I'm just too excited for the piano.

No, I tested other 3. CA95 was not available in the shop, and it was for an additional $900 too. Anyway, right now I'm not even thinking or care about the piano. I know this is not the place/forum to say this, but I just cringed a little after hearing shooting news from Connecticut.

atarang ... if you have 3k as a budget and IF you have sufficient room, that's really a fine amount to get a workable upright piano. DPs are great (i have one and use it all the time). BUT ... learning on a "real" piano right from the start is invaluable.

i understand this is the DP forum so maybe it's not the place to say "get a real piano!" but, again, you COULD w/the resources you're describing ....

just my 2 pennies ... smile
