It occurred to me that since I have a unique piano, I might donate it as opposed to wheeling it to the end of the street with a "free" sign. It's a 1940s-1950s Story&Clark piano-organ combo. I called Goodwill, who came by today and said that yes, even though the piano requires work, they can take it. He thought I could write off several hundred if not $1000 for it.

How does one decide what something like this is worth? Physically and visually it's fine. The organ works except for several keys, all the piano keys work but it doesn't sound good and I find the action hard to play.

Still, Even if I write off $500-800, that offsets the cost of my new piano a bit...

Sweet!

The best way to determine it's value would be to pay a competent piano tuner and/or appraiser to give it a thorough inspection.
