Greetings Forum Participants,

I have an opportunity to buy a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-170 in Dark Rosewood near a major urban area in the U.S. Northeast. What do you estimate is a fair market price for this piano? Please give a specific number, even if it's just a guess.

I've withheld the offer price from this post so as not to bias your expert judgment, but I'll post it as soon as this inquiry receives three satisfactory replies.

I realize this model is quite old for a digital (bought in 2005, though model came out in 2002), but it was top of the line when new, meaning action and some other specs will be superior to many newer models. Assume for the sake of argument this piano has been kept in very good condition.

Thanks!
Nathan

Seven years old? Less than half price of its new price when available, and less than half price of its current replacement (could be the 470?). How much less depends on its condition, the key action condition. Before proceeding I would look to see, for the asking price, what is available new across all brands that meet my requirements (and not by comparing feature specs).

It's a 10 years old, because it came out in 2002. Still, pretty decent model. GH3 action, that's what most clavinovas come with at the current time. AWM is sort of the go to sound for cheaper Yamahas these days. I could easily see someone buying it for like $1000.

Of course the usual disclaimers apply: the used digital piano market is very thin so there isn't an established fair price. Therefore the variance on our guesses is likely to be very large. What I can say is that I would prefer this to a new $1000 piano (which is a cheap one) like a P155. I would also prefer it to a typical Yamaha Arius piano like the YDP 161 or 181.

I would also say 1000, or not much above this.

CLP 170 better than YDP 181 - may be, but there is a similarly priced Clavinova CLP-430, which I would probably buy and not 170 (new CLP-430 costs 1700-1800 + tax though).

I actually own and use it every day.

When I have time, I use it with Vintage D VST, but own sound is also good by itself.

Keyboard GH3 is great and iAFC and speakers make a good job.

I think that, especially if keyboard is in good condition, it's worth the price up to 1000 USD.

Thanks everyone. The offer price is $1295. It seems like we have three votes for $1000 (more opinions are welcome). I'll ask the seller to consider your input.
