Excellent photos. Piano looks fabulous as well as the view. I can see the new library on upper left below the Coronado Bridge. It's the dome shaped building. Enjoy.

How high are the ceilings in your piano room? They look very high!

I recognized downtown San Diego before I read your profile !! What a great view. The Coronado Bridge wasn't built when I lived there in the 60's. We had to take the Ferry to get to Hotel Coronado for our senior prom !!

Beautiful view - beautiful piano !! Congratulations !!

Thanks all!

Jazzy - easiest move ever! Roll piano into elevator, press button, roll out, set up!

Panch - I haven't made it inside the library yet but I watched it being constructed!

Pianolo - Ceilings are 10ft and it is a Weber WG-57.

Carey - I still take the ferry on occasion! Sounds like a memorable prom!

That's correct. 1994 Weber got it from the original owner, great first piano for me. Had it tuned, cleaned, and music rest re-felted and she's good to go!

Side note: I want to throw my artist bench off the balcony because the squeaking is back even after tightening everything up under there. Anyone have a fix for these or do you have to constantly tend to them?

The cheaper, knock-off benches often have a wobble/squeak problem. I received instructions from one manufacturer to loosen off the mechanism screws, shim with cardboard (it's the truth, I swear!) and re-tighten the screws. As anyone can imagine, it almost helped a little bit, and only for a short time.

For home use, most players don't need a height adjustable bench - get a solid bench or stool of the correct height. Dispose of the "artiste" (not!) bench. Make sure there is no one down below when you give it the toss....

Truly amazing space! Congratulations!

How will you protect the piano from the sunlight?

I pull the window shades down for the direct daytime sunlight, but the UV glass helps tone things down a bit. I also use a UV protective polish on the finish.

Hi OG,

First of all, that view is spectacular!

About the squeeking bench ---

This is not at all uncommon with any bench using a "standard" furniture leg attachment. That is the kind where the leg has a bolt embeded in the wood and this mates with a corner bracket attached to the frame and secured with a lock-washer and nut. There is an easy method to help quiet any squeeks which may develop due to weight shift over time.

Loosen the nuts to allow a bit of separation between the legs and the frame. Sometimes it is easier to just remove the legs. Slide a bar of "hard" soap along the edges of the frame to provide just a bit of "lube." You don't need "globs." Re-assemble and tighten everything up.

This works for all types of furniture, such as dining chairs and tables, and is a standard carpenter's trick. Any furniture using this type of leg attachment will tend to squeek after awhile and this is an easy cure.

It's much easier to bash a Steinway than it is to play one.

I had the same problem. My simple solution was to set the bench to the height I wanted. Measure the distance between the rails and the bottom of the seat then cut some blocks to fit. Raise the seat and put some double stick tape where the bottom of the block rests, insert the block and lower the seat. It's now as solid as a rock and the blocking can be removed easily. It took about 5 minutes.

What a fantastic view from your piano!!! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful picture with us!. Like Mark said above, a night picture would be great to see too as I am sure that will be a very dramatic setting. Congratulations to your new home.

A little lubricant can cure the squeaky bench.
