I find that life is disappointing however you look at it, but I do my best to dance to the music anyway.

Edit: Well, I don't always feel life is disappointing. Just today. For today I'd have an answer to the question "What is the purpose of art?". I'd say the purpose of art is to help people to deal with their disappointment in life.

I've read the purpose of art question many times in vlhorowitz's interviews with pianists and always thought how in the world do you answer that. Then I have a day of feeling discouraged and lo and behold a clear answer emerged.
