@James,

What was the release date for the Kawai EGP 10 hybrid model and is this the only "hybrid" digital grand that Kawai has made? There is also the HA 11, although that is an upright hybrid model.

I like the looks of the EGP 10, as it appears to be quite similar to the Roland digital grands.

The EGP 10 (below) had 100 watts of power... did it sound good?

Also, the manual says it only has 32 notes of polyphony.

One other question:

What does the "El" in "Grand El" stand for?

This title is on the first page of the owner's manual:

http://www.kawai.de/service/egp10_en.pdf

Extra note:

After comparing "El" to the word "Manual" it appears to be a lower case "l" (as in Manual).

Sounds more like a hotel, not a piano!

The EGP10 and HA11 were launched in the summers of 1996 and 1998 respectively.
To my knowledge, Kawai has not produced any other hybrid pianos (unless you count the 'AnyTime' silent pianos).

I'm afraid I do not know what 'El' refers to in 'Grand El', but I expect it's something like 'Electronic'.

Cheers,
James

Well, this is a pleasant surprise! I'm glad that Kawai has introduced another hybrid piano. They introduced an upright action model years ago (which perhaps James can add more to here).

When was this introduced?

............

... Just as I posted this I saw that James had already commented. I was hoping this was a new hybrid. Oh well.

The manuals for both models contain a MIDI implementation chart.

The EGP-10 manual says July 1996.

The HA-11 manual says March 1998 in the English version, and April 1998 in the French, German, Italian, and Spanish versions.
