Found a brand new Casio CDP-220 up for sale for $400. Just wanted to get a second opinion. I am mostly a beginner and wanted something with weighted keys that I could also use to control VSTs inside my DAW when needed. Worth it?

Thanks

I saw these tonight at Costco in Mountain View, California. They are on the casio-intl website, but not the USA website?

It's an OK piano. For the same money, you could get a PX-130 when they are on sale for $399. The CDP-220 does have more bells and whistles though with rhythms and accompaniment. These are nice extras if you think you will want to have some backing to accompany your playing down the road.

PX Vs CDP

128-note polyphony VS 48 note polyphony on the CDP

3 Pedals Piano pedals : una corda, sostenuto and sustain pedal

CDP only has sustain pedal.

However the CDP has a display which I found useful as a beginner and has a record onto SD card facility. As well as some not so good built in lessons.

I tried a CDP-120 and thought it was okay, but did get the PX130 for under $400 and highly recommend it. It sounds nice hooked up to studio monitors as well

The CDP line uses the AHL sound source and I think the piano sample is just 2 layers instead of 4 on the PX-130. The PX-130 has more polphony and a different sound source. I don't know if the action is the same on the CDP line. On the older CDP 100, the action was heavier and noiser. Casio is getting ready to release an upgraded Privia line which will cost more than the current Privias.

I would try out the Px-150 when it comes out as you could likely get a $90-$100 discount from MF or GC.

I wrote a review on the Casio CDP 220 on my website: I hope this helps: http://www.digitalpianocompare.co.uk/casio-cdp-220r-digital-piano-review/

Our team gave it 3 out of 5 stars in terms of value for money and I would make sure that you consider the Yamaha P95 alongside it.

Thanks, Tom
