Has anyone bought a Kawai Rx-1 recently? The price quoted by the piano store is $19,866 brandnew. I think it's overpriced. Any idea what is the reasonable range? Thank you.

While recently shopping for a student, I saw two RX2s for sale in the 23k range. I'd say 19k is in the right range for an RX-1. You could probably talk them down a little.

That price is very reasonable. It represents 25% off Larry Fine's SMP. The suggested discount range off SMP is 10%-30%.

Thank you for your responses. I don't have much experience in purchasing piano, and when I compared the price my friend paid 5 years ago for a brand new Kawai RX-2 at $16,000, I was confused--has piano price increased that much within the past few years?

The RX series certainly has.

I also have looked at a Boston GP163 and the price is at $19,334, but it was on a loan program for five years. It was made in 2007. Would the Boston or Kawai be a better deal? Thanks.

Bostons are very similar but priced higher.

Don't do it, either new Boston or new RX. $19K is too much.

You can find lightly used ones at much lower prices. There are bunches in my area.

I wish I were more interested in that kind of piano because there are deals to be had if you don't mind wholesalers or private sellers.

I might even end up with one.

But for now I am looking for something different.

Hello what'sright,

Take your time to also try the best other Asian grands available in your area - there are many choices like Hailun, Pramberger, Ritmuller, Perzina, Brodmann, May Berlin, etc. You might end up finding out they are just as good or better than the Kawai model you want and for same price or less. Have fun shopping !

That's doesn't sound like a good deal to me. I just saw an RX-2 for 18,000 that was on loan for 1 year.

Personally, I like the RXs a lot, way more than Bostons.

Thanks, Borsendorff. We looked at a 4-year-old Pramburger from a private seller. It's 6'10, looks almost brand new. However, my son thought it's too metalic and the keys are kind of hard to play. Does anyone have experience with Pramburger? Also, people always say it's easy to buy a piano but hard to sell one. Will it be more difficult to sell a less known Pramburger?

Hello what'sright,

Pramberger pianos are not as common as Yamahas or Kawais, but depending on the model, they have relatively similar value (see Larry Fine's ratings as a guide).

Of course, it's very important that you will like the piano, so if your son doesn't really like the touch and sound, continue to check around and test others.

I was quoted under 15k last weekend for an Rx-1. For an Rx-2 20k. I think you can definitely negotiate downwards.

Scorchy,

You had only one post in the forum prior to your last. I'm sorry for the skepticism, but when somebody throws an unreasonable low price with very little detail; there is a reason to be suspicious of that person.

I want to advise the OP to do all possible to get a good deal but disregard the use of a misleading guide-line.

Kurtmen,

I'm just a consumer like most everyone on this forum looking for the best deal and sharing knowledge and information in order to buy the best possible piano at the best possible price. I have no interest in throwing around false information.

It looks like you are a dealer of Kawai's. So you actually have a conflict of interesting in commenting on prices. It would make sense that you would want to discredit someone posting information regarding low prices.

I don't know the circumstances regarding the low price on the RX-1. I do think it is a super low price and was surprised. I was just in the market for a larger model otherwise I would have bought it right then and there. Maybe the prices are much lower in Arizona than San Jose.

Scorchy?
For the sake of sharing.

How much did you pay for the GC2, which wholesale is less than the RX1?
